Possibly the former, though that is public available knowledge.
unlikely to be the latter as that will have already impacted the share price - you are not going to say "oh look, bad stuff's happened and knocked the share price down - now would be a good time to sell", are you ?

Manfred, when 10 directors of any company sell shares any investor worth his salt should take note. As mentioned else where, the number of directors selling and volume of shares traded should act as a good hint for anybody else to probably do the same.
As for the current share price it is largely unchanged this week, and I doubt whether anybody in the city would see a few days of weather induced disruption as a good reason to start selling stock. However, directors selling is a very different matter.
So no conspiracy theories or insider trading cover ups just simple economics.
I'm not connected to BA either!

In that case Airbrake we more or less agree
Aviation is a cyclical business. The world's economy also goes up and down.
I think the directors, as does much of the City, think both are likely to head on a downwards trajectory soon. From a peak.
Makes sense to sell then doesn't it ?
If you look around major leasing companies, such as GATX, SALE in Singapore and others have sold up recently. There is a reason for that - people think aircraft values are at a peak. I think we are about to get into the inevitable downwards bit of the cycle re aviation.
I also think the global economy is going to slow next yr.
Many others think so too.

Many companies have disposal 'windows' as well, periods where directors can take up or dispose of share options or holdings during a set period.
It can be related to tax or governance or both. I'd be wary of reading too much (or indeed anything) into this.

Lets clear this up. BA Directors and senior managers from time to time get performance related share options where they get the right to buy shares and of course sell them in the 'allowed period'. These are usually redeemable in 3 years as long as certain criteria are met. So this 'cash' in is the selling of shares at a price 3 years ago being purchaesd at the lower value and now being sold at todays price. If you got 20,000 shares at 3 years ago share price and surrender them now that is very nice.

Sometimes directors sell shares because, like all of us on ocasions, they simply need the money.
