Maybe next year will be even harder for VS if there fuel hedging fails.
I am surprised at this profit with Ricky B's love of four engined aircraft. Surely 4 engines bad 2 engines good in current times, I feel fuel prices will continue to trend upwards.

Chew Choon Seng, Singapore Airlines’ chief executive, said that during the financial year to March 31, its 49 per cent stake in Virgin Atlantic had contributed S$400,000, a virtual break even.
If i owned a 49% share in the company who made $109M and i only got $400K i would be asking a few serious questions !

Complete smoke and mirrors from Sir Dickie's airline. The analysts and press seem to have generally 'outed' them this time. The next year will be tough for everyone and especially for Virgin Atlantic.
Too mean to buy a long personal title

Interesting story Jenson. I expect this is after the recent announcement that the whiskery opportunist has said that sponsoring you next year will be a bridge too far for his budget and Brawn F1 will not now be renamed Virgin (yuk!) F1 in his honour.
I suppose as well, that these particular A330s will be fitted with four engines to protect his favoured specification for trans-oceanic flying!

After he tried chatting up me missus, the sponsorship deal didn't look too good. Virgin F1 naaah...
A330's not A340's.
Me thinks that there are problems with the boeing 787 order and a possibility of early retirement for the 744.
Still a very interesting deal though. Fleet commonality and an all Airbus fleet for the future makes sense and saves more money for the Branson.

Happy Birthday Virgin Atlantic & a Order for 10x Airbus A330-300
Happy 25th birthday .......!
Virgin Atlantic today announced a new order from Airbus for 10 x A330-300, 5 x arriving spring 2011 & 5 x arriving 2012.
Today is Virgin Atlantic's 25th birthday and the celebration, which is now ongoing in London goes trans-atlantic later this morning. While the 1984 inaugural VS1 flew from Gatwick to Newark, today's birthday flight will go from LHR to EWR.
New Virgin Atlantic destinations were also just announced: Beijing, Vancouver and Cancun were mentioned by Sir Richard at his LHR presser today. Furthermore, Branson noted that it is "likely inefficient big carriers will disappear, and in a sense they should. In a forest, when some big trees die new saplings can get going." The VA founder went on to lament that upstarts like his Virgin America can not get additional slots at JFK because of legacy carrier squatting at NYC's biggest airport.
