I've checked the schedule for February & the arrival time is 14:50 an increase in block time of 15 minutes to 09:25 which is probably due to seasonal variations in winds.

Switching to an A340 would increase the block time as its a slower aircraft but the VS website shows a 744 on the dates I have checked.

An hours difference is often caused by countries at either end of a route implementing summer time at on different dates. However summer time starts earlier & finishes later in Florida (14 Mar - 7 Nov this year compared to 28 Mar - 30 Oct in the UK). During the last two weeks of March the flight should land an hour earlier given a 10:25 departure and 9:25 block time.

Sorry I've not ansered your question!

Thanks for the answers. I had heard about the switch to A333 from next Spring, but didn't figure on the lower cruise speed!

May also have something to do with ETOPS routing.

Alliances

Heard that Virgin have finally realised that the world is round and that maybe after all joining an alliance is a good idea. Welcome to the real world boys- most other airlines have been doing this for ages instead of relying on a basket full of code shares. Thing is just who would allow them to join?

Reminds me of Groucho Marx who said he'd never join a club that would allow him to be a member.

Then to conclude the interview, SRB mentioned how good a fit BMI would be to VS. I thought that was dead in the ground ages ago but someone else thinks differently.

Virgin at Glasgow in 2011

Can we assume that VS will operate A330s from Glasgow in 2011, if one is based at MAN? Not 100% sure if the GLA aircraft this year is MAN or LGW based?

There's a weekly GLA service with the A330 operating on Saturdays from May.

Cool

No, as normally the 2nd flt positions through GLA which will be the 744. Unless there will be an a/c positioned at GLA seperately to the one that positions to/from MAN.

Isn't GLA-MCO twice weekly from May 2011?

It was at the time but I believe it has changed. I think a new A330 will beat a tired (young-ish) B744 anyday.

Probably because it is a 744 in April...

It becomes an A333 on Saturday 7th May 2011.

You were probably told it was a 744 when booking because, when booking, it was a 744 that would be operating the flight.

It wasn't until the actual routes were announced that the company itself would know the routes it would operate on assuming you booked with Virgin Holidays?

Completely different companies and I wouldn't expect a man/woman booking your holiday would know it was to change.

Just waiting for MAN-MCO fares to become available for May 11 flights. Wondering how I will select my seat if the A330 cabin layout is a closely guarded secret.

Anyone care to reveal the seat pitch in economy? 31", 32" or 33"?

Fleet Plan

Folks,

Any ideas on the VS overall fleet plan?

1. Timescales for LGW / MAN 744 refits?
2. Do the above refits mean that the new 748 / A380 competition for LGW will not now happen?
3. Longer term plan for LHR 744 fleet?
4. A380s? Coming or not?
5. A330s...interim until 789 or permanent?
6. A346s...presumably no more to join, but could they replace all the LHR 744s?
7. Routes...what goes where?

Am I right in thinking the LHR 744s are older than the LGW fleet...so maybe they are next to go?

All info appreciated!

Last I heard the A380's were cancelled, A330's to replace A340's and B789 to replace B747. Next B747 is due to be "re-branded" in the first week of Sept

A380s still on the books and are still talked about periodically. EIS is now about 2013/2015.
