Astraeus goes to Kabul
According to aviation job search, Astraeus are going to be flying to Kabul, via Dubai.
Another example of this company opening up routes right at the forefront of development.

There will be 2x 757 based in DXB initially with one night stopping in Kabul each night and alternating between each night. It is a project with Boeing and the Afgan Government to try and re-establish the national airline of Afganistan. It is hoped that eventually both 757s will be based in Kabul permanently and have Afgan nationals as Flight / Cabin Crew operating to Astraeus standards.

They will be an Ariana operation.

Astraeus & Air Astana
Can anyone tell me how the flights LGW-SCO are doing. I was in SCO yesterday and I heard a rumour it could be axed if business did not pickup. The route has not been well advertised and does not have the same guarenteed business as LGW-URA.
On another note I was chatting to the Air Astana Flight Attendants on the way down from Atyrau. They mentioned Air Astana was looking to expand it's route network - they pan to add 5 x A320s (one they already have) and another 757. I am interested to know what routes they plan to run from Atyrau. If anyone can advise I would be pleased to know

Direct Aktau flights have been temporarily suspended until more work can be done to build the loads with oil companies in the Aktau area. The route was apparently started at pretty short notice, not giving enough time for any companies using it to move their shift rotation patterns around to meet the direct flight. Work under way and it will apparently re-start in April some time.
Current rumours only suggest Air Astana operating more Atyrau-Amsterdam services and Atyrau-Istanbul. A320s are freeing up 737s on some routes and 737s then being used to replace F50s on some long domestic treks for which the F50 wasn't ideally suited!

This explains why we cannot book people on the SCO-LGW route. I tried to get on it 1st week April, but my travel booker advised against it, so I'm routing between Seville and Istanbul and then taking the Tupelov to Atyrau.
As for the 73G taking over F50 routes this is true as I spent the weekend going up and down between Atyrau and Aktau - but it won't win any awards for time keeping - the first trip was cancelled, the second 1 hour late and the third 4 hours late. It's early days though.

I know Astraeus have just had an ex First Choice Airways aircraft,
G-OOOG, now G-OJIB join their fleet, which is a very old B757, the cabin is very run down.
So I wonder if they have refurbished the cabin in this aircraft, or perhaps they will not bother, and concentrate on getting more used, older B757's.
Their poor customers!!

Aircraft has gone through D Check and interior refurb before arriving at Astraeus, and has the new leather seats in the front bit. It is also getting leather seats in the economy cabins shortly. It's actually quite nice.
Cabins are only a problem because the contracted engineering people don't do their job. Was on the aircraft a few days ago and a seat-back panel had come loose - handed it to a Monarch engineer who threw it into the overhead locker and said he didn't have time to fix it. It is no surprise that there are problems when there are not enough engineers at Monarch to do the job they are supposed to.
Haven't heard anything about a fifth 757 though.

FFFC,
Have you actually seen the interior of their 757's????
They have buisness class seats at the front with a superior pitch that would put FCA to shame, and the rest of the cabin has a better pitch than most other operators....

When I was talking about the cabin's I just meant G-OOOG, as I travelled on this one in Feb 2006 and the cabin was very run down, did not know whether Astraeus had upgraded the interior, but obviously they have and good for them.

Agree seat pitch is excellent, but as LGW hunter pointed out you'll always find a missing seatbck/ arm cap or DPCU not working; i think it is easy to blame the contracted company but there are also two sides to every story! fly the pants of plane everyday and you'll soon find problems with cabins; with short turn arounds no wonder the engineer had no time, probably had more important things to do like check engine oils etc..
but hopefully the 5th 757 will improve the standards
