There are currently no plans to operate Deer Lake for next Summer, although, as always in this business things may change.

The flight always operated just from Gatwick, although the first flight of the summer season operated back empty to Manchester.

The flight is shorter than Sharm el Sheikh, and is operated at 120 mins ETOPS. The shortest YDF-LGW sector was just over 4 hours

Thanks for that guys and especially hamrah was hoping you might come up with an authoritive version.Thought deer lake might make an interesting and alternative summer holiday idea ,without too high a quotient of "Sun readers" joining us.Area always looks good when I fly over the top and the accomodation specifications on offer seem very high.Barwell seemed to reckon they would be offering a weekly flight so wonder who that might be with and on what day.Schedule services would make the journey areal pain.I flew the 738 a few years ago and my personal record was a full load of 189 for 7 hours with plenty of fuel left at the end guess the 700 must be even more impressive.

They start on the 24th January. Aktau on a tuesday returning on the wedensday and Uralsk leaving Wednesday and returning on the Thursday on behalf of Air Astana.
There will be Star Class and Economy classes.

Hope this helps

Could Air Astana take the services over themselves in the future, perhaps from LHR (where they fly to Almaty)?

Rather unlikely - they have only just managed to get hold of a third weekly slot to expand their Heathrow/Almaty services for next summer, so to then try to find two extra slots to accommodate the Gatwick services to Uralsk and Aktau might be quite tricky.

Apart from anything else, the Gatwick routes are oil-based and Gatwick offers better links than Heathrow to all of the big oil centres like Houston, Dallas, Aberdeen etc.

AEU Skinner

Do you have any more details .

"They start on the 24th January. Aktau on a tuesday returning on the wedensday and Uralsk leaving Wednesday and returning on the Thursday on behalf of Air Astana.

I am very interested.

Also the UK Embassy sent us a flier that BA was still trying to fly to Atyrau - but no luck yet.

regards

Spoke to Barwell Leisure today who Astraeus operate the flight for, and was advised that the flight will be operating next summer as normal, along with the winter flights that start today.

My neighbours were looking at buying a holiday home at a new development near Stevenville, getting there using this route.

It is apparently a Salmon paradise.

Just booked it for this summer Monarch are doing it with a 757 198 seats so either its payload resricted at Deer Lake (6000ft runway) or I had heard they might be taking seats out of the old girls.Flights leave LGW on Thursday at 1200 back into LGW at 2350

Great, was thinking about doing this for the summer, but not going to bother if its Monarch, ive had one too many bad experiences with Monarch.

There are several flights a week on this route. If you can give a better idea of which tour operator you've booked with and which day you're travelling, I can let you know

Deer Lake has just been announced in Monarch staff magazine as a new destination and the east bound sector is payload restricted hence the 198 seat availability.I do believe two of Monarchs 757s are going to be in 213 seat config for the summer which should make them a lot more palatable for pax than the dreadful 235 sardine fit.Hope they offer a premium service on this sector
