Burns & Laird operated Adrossan to Belfast with the ro/ro passenger ferry LION which entered service in 1967, the company was taken over by P&O Ferries in 1975 and the service stopped a year later on 20th February 1976, LION was then transferred to the main P&O fleet operating from Dover to Boulogne for P&O Normandy Ferries.

I never knew that, thanks for the info! Personally, I think that the Trump news is good for Prestwick, not earth-shattering and not particularly surprising given the proximity of the airport to Turnberry. It is, however, a signal after the suggestions by Landmark and Greer that they would take all their business with them, that there will still be a programme of private flights at PIK.

Hmmm indeed. I'd be interested to know what the long term conditions were that Landmark demanded in return for their £2m. Until that is known we'll not know whether the rejection was justified. Its also strange that its taken the 90 days notice period for this informstion to be made public. Why not release it at the start of the notice period?

A spokesman for Transport Scotland said the airport was being run "at arm's length" from Government and that consolidation of FBO operations was "in the best interests of the company".
He added: "Work is proceeding to establish a new FBO facility, including interviewing staff currently employed by Greer and Landmark."

Prestwick only handled 21,000 passengers in November 2014. That's not even a single based aircraft worth. Is Ryanair only doing w pattern into PIK now? Is this a seasonal base?

Prestwick Aviation Holdings, the holding company for the airport acquired by the Scottish Government for £1 a year ago, has recorded a pre-tax loss of £4.2million in the year to March 2014.
Infrastructure arm Prestwick Airport Ltd posted a £1.26m pre-tax profit, as reported by The Herald on Monday, but sister trading company Glasgow Prestwick Airport Ltd made an operating loss of £5.8m on turnover of £9.2m. No figures have been released by the Scottish Government.
Total group turnover was £11.8m, down from £12.5m in the previous year. The £4.2m loss compared with a £21.4m loss in 2012-13 after writedowns of £16.5m under previous owner Infratil. Passenger numbers were up from 1.08m to 1.11m and freight tonnes from 9,612 to 10,337.

But you are...........anyway its not a loss, its a negative profit and the subsidy to prop it up is an investment, and who cares so long as the mugs south of Gretna are happy to pick up the tab.

Projects paid for by the public and deemed to be benefitting the whole UK include an extension of the London Underground, a bridge in Liverpool, the Lower Thames Crossing in London, the Thameslink and Crossrail networks in London, various roads (most notably including the A14 from Warwickshire to Suffolk, but none in Scotland, as road-building in Scotland is a devolved responsibility) and of course the HS2 rail line, speeding passengers from as far north as Birmingham to (surprise!) London.

But I am an English tax payer (of Scottish nationality) living in the South East so I'm all right Jack (or should it be Jock?). Joking aside, two rights don't make a wrong and that fact that the UK Government has announced a number of infrastructure projects which a cynic might think have something to do with the forthcoming general election doesn't make it right that the Scottish Government took ownership of Prestwick to try and bolster SNP chances in the devolution referendum. I wish no harm to the people of Prestwick but there is just no case for it to be subsidised by tax payers - the Scottish Central Belt is not exactly short of airports.
