It's no secret that Infratil have been in talks with FR, EZY and BMI, to name but a few, but the deal has to profitable for all concerned it's a known fact that a lot of lo co's operate with very little profit left for the Airport itself.
In fact they could start flying routes tomorrow and would probably fill the seats and, yes it would make MSE a hell of a lot busier than they are now, but with the additional staff needed to be taken on to accomodate this, there would little incentive to do so.
It's a fine balance between getting the right airlines in and making a profit from them.
A lot of airports rely on retail outlets and such like for this, which unfortunately Manston doesnt have.

Also there would have to be a massive investment in ground handling services, which is another reason why, maybe a deal like this hasn't already gone ahead.

Personally, I eyeballed the situation and read the stats, and they meet my definition of "lousy".

Moving on to Esperia, I have only just realised that they are marketing KIA as "London", and proposing to bus people to London Bridge.

Jesus!!!

That trip takes three to five hours depending on traffic, not to mention their onward journey from London Bridge.

Rather them than me!
Three to fiver hours try 2 hour's Hope ryanair start at MSE PLEASE O'Leary

They will be flying it weekly next summer for Cosmos and a US tour operator. I think it has funding from Kent County Council

There is more than just Durham being looked at!!

I have also heard about the BAE146! If you have two different types of aircraft don't go LCC Esperia- as FR have proved you need to get your fleet to one type to provide true economies of scale! Even the fact that they have brought all down to even one type of Boeing- 800. BTW Esperia you can pick up -200 for next to nothing, and even though not as cost effective as their 800 brother still very reasonable!!

Everybody I presume knows that Hooters Air America has closed but has anybody heard anything about Hooters Air UK starting up- couple of old EUjet people were looking at that, also using 200s! They also looked at MSE, which could work as purely stag/ hen work wouldn't require a LON base, but MSE is in close enough proximity- they were also talking to a bus company in London to provide the transport. If I remember correctly they were talking about AMS, BUD, DUB, NCE, PRG, CIA for the start up. Limited market but could work thru tour operator sales!

I take it you can't reveal any of the other airport being looked at EUAir?

And the schedule posted on the Esperia website - that isn't their final schedule is it?

Have been unavailable Thursdays recently, so unable to eyeball Segura pax, but the number of vehicles in car park is now down to 9, so I guess that tells it's own story...............

I don't quite understand this.

Why have bits of this thread disappeared to an "Esperia" thread.

Is this normal?

Does anyone know:

1) the address of Infratil Airports Europe's head office (presumably Prestwick Airport?)

2) where Steven Fitzgerald (the CEO) is based (and his email address but please PM this rather than reply on thread!)

3) who is the head honcho at Manston at the moment (and his email address)

Have just spent half an hour on their various (poor) websites without finding this information - and am losing the will to live !

Thanks

As I indicated above and per Evil's note below - PM or email ( [email protected] ) in the event of passing on any email addresses to me would be appropriate

Probably best that any reply to TimS' request be by PM or e-mail.

Cheers,

I must say that, in the current climate of fear concerning UK - USA flying, this is an absolutely super time to be launching MSE - Virginia charters.

Well done Kent and Thanet councils for making such good use of my council tax!!

(PS - Thanet to Guys Hospital yesterday - 3hrs 25mins)
Told you so.

And of course Thanet Council soothsayers knew about yesterdays events in advance!

The world cannot stop because of fear! If it does then the terrorists have won! We all know that there are people in this world who believe that the power of a bomb is the only way to stop anything- Tony Blair, George W Bush, Ehud Olmert! So regretfully we will always live in the knowledge that a terrorist can always attack. We just get on with it and live our lives and hopefully some American flights from MSE will work. Margate tower flats don't have the same ring as 9/11.

I'm not talking about yesterday.

Yesterdays events were not the first, and I doubt that they will be the last.

World events have been creating instability in aviation for a long time, and it is irresponsible of our politicians to be basing a local economic strategy on an airport which offers so little promise.

Furtheremore, it is criminal to waste public money on the venture.

I learned my Manston lesson last year and it cost me 10,000 quid.

It's time our politicians did some learning as well.

AAHhhhh so now we see, you are just bitter and twisted, because YOU thought you would make a quick buck and it didn't pan out for you.
The dangers of gambling on the market, i beleive they say.
Get over it deedave and stop using MSE as a kicking post.
By the way, our poilitians are doing something..... they are supporting their local airport, something that they and many thousands of Kent residents beleive in too.

blaze-

I was happy to support my local airport, and only a fool invests money he cannot afford to lose.

However, after nearly 8 years of failing to come up with the goods, I am one of an increasing number of people who feel it is time to say "times up".

I am not insensitive to the fact that you have a mortgage to pay, and you want to hang on to your job, but Manston has not only failed to materialise as an asset to Thanet, but is actually becoming a liability.

We cannot support you indefinitely.

London Bridge to Manston.
The time taken very much depends on the time of day ,off peak you can do it well under 2 hours.
By road from London Bridge to other Airports say Stanstead,Gatwick,Heathrow very dependant on time of day may even take longer, its all about time of day and traffic.
The problems we now have with delays at large airports, it's a lot less hassle at the smaller Airports.
Manston may well find it's market
