I'm not sure how comparing EDI with LGW is really relevant. Simply because they have the same owners? GIP doesn't run airports in the same control-freak manner as BAA, each individual airport is very much in control of its own team and its own priorities, and the EDI and LGW markets are entirely different. For one thing LGW is competing with LHR for business, and many of the airlines they attracted have made it clear they would rather be at LHR, and given the chance they have gone there, hence why LGW hasn't been as successful as it wished to be in terms of long haul.

Given that the new management team has been in place for barely 6 months at EDI, they haven't done half bad, securing Air Canada Rouge to YYZ, as well as daily service on Turkish, plus SN, VS, and a variety of new EZY and FR routes. And it looks like they don't intend to stop there.

EDI is still very much LH's airport of choice in Scotland, with multiple daily flights to LH's main hub at FRA. This new fund [funded privately by EDI and not a drain on taxpayer cash, as the DUS 'move' was] is nowt to do with getting in a "lather" it's all about engaging in healthy competition, and by the way, EDI is competing with airports right across Europe for new business, so Glasgow's airport bosses probably shouldn't try and kid themselves on that it's all about them.

Bring on the competition!

Interesting, that you think this is irrelevant.

Virgin Atlantic names domestic service Little Red - Transport - Scotsman.com

I wonder how 'Little Red' would go down in the USA?

Just got a text stating that the very first LHR-EDI flight on 5th April has been cancelled (VS3001 06:45 Dep), so they have moved me to the later flight.

No issue for me, I'm going home for several days, 3 hours is nothing to cry over, but I do wonder why it's been dropped so far in advance.

My return flight several days later (VS3006) has also been cancelled. That was meant to depart at 13:35, but I have now been moved to an earlier departure, the VS3004 which leaves EDI at 11:20. Again, this doesn't really affect me, I'm only flying to see how they are and see if they are doing anything special for the (now cancelled) first VS LHR-EDI flight.

I imagine some people will be quite annoyed at these time changes and it's not a great start when they are competing with BA, who will be able to get people to EDI before 9am on the 5th April!

Great to see. This service has been doing well for TK since it launched last July, and very clearly TK is satisfied with it if it's going daily on larger equipment.

Turkish

Source: CAA

February 2479 pax
January 3069 pax
December 3132 pax
November 2988 pax
October 4047 pax

The New Year has seen load factor drop to about 60% in February (assuming no cancellations) from a high of 80% in October.

Per libhomeradar there have been between 5 and 10 upgrades most months (up to Jan) with the 738's, 739's and A320's dropping in.

Getting a precise load factor is difficult as some aircraft I believe have a moveable curtain for business class.

It was not long ago BHX was averaging 50-60% in winter at 5 a week and now it averages just below 70% in winter as a daily service and is going 10 weekly from next week. TK were patient with BHX but EDI has been upgraded much quicker.

A random question - Dept EDI on an EZY service Fri night and there was what looked like the UA 757 was parked down the East end of the other runway with a few flashing lighted service vehicles around it. Oout of EDI now and again at this time but havent seen this before? Usual?

Cologne was ditched some time ago, in the face of competition from GWI, and DLH to DUS before it went west.

Is this 2013 or 2014? Seems unlikely that they would be operating any long haul from a non-787 base that early?

EDI are just occassional w-pattern routes, so depends on if the 787 is operating the established prior route, Would be surprising as ground staff would be clueless
