thanks VictorC10.. I had not seen an intersection take off at EDI before.
When I was in Australia I did hear ATC offer a female QANTAS pilot an intersection take off - she declined and said she always took the full lenght - to much schoolboy giggling..

intersection departures

Hi

Was on a similar dep from PIK on 17/8/12 to AGPThey were late and trying to make up time if I remember. All perfectly fine with intersection distances declared. Did think that the time saving was marginal! But FR culture is taking over the industry Is safety being eroded

Reykjavik ?

I've got the Easyjet app on my phone, they are showing Reykjavik as a route from EDI but does not pull back and results. When you check it from KEF it's also shows routes to MAN. It's not on the website, could it be a new route for those extra aircraft ? or just a glitch.

not sure, but that KEF "glitch" has shown up a number of times over the years, and may be a new route from somewhere, not necessarily from EDI and not necessarily to KEF !

Certainly KEF is flown from LUT with EZY. Used it myself a few weeks back - very good loads. Now if EZY were ever to introduce a KEF service from EDI I think that would be very interesting bearing in mind that Icelandair operate a 757 service to GLA - what is it these days twice or three times a week?

I know that the Iceair flights tend to go on to or come from States/Canada however I cetainly did notice that a lotof the EZY pax from LUT were Icelandic.

I would suspect they would carry different types of pax. FI going for the premium and transfer pax through KEF to US. EZY covering the low cost and locals. I wouldn't think Iceland Express would last at EDI.
I see FI ex GLA is up to 4 times a week again shortly.

EZY Edinburgh-KEF would almost certainly be bad news for Icelandair from GLA. That service is already a poor shadow of its former self, and I doubt many are using it these days for Scotland-USA transfers when UA has such a grip on the direct market, and BA, KL, AF and LH clean up on the connecting stuff. EZY is a strong brand, and FI would struggle to compete on price.

Fascinating Bartek, ICE are upping GLA-KEF to 4 x direct weekly next summer, quite possibly due to the 44% rise in pax (3809) between GLA and KEF in August (EDI minus 34% - 1354) which outperformed MAN's 3693 pax, it's well known that Icelanders prefer Glasgow for shopping more than anywhere else.

Things I thought I'd never say : Joe Curry may well be right
I have insisted all along that my views of BAA's EDI ownership were 100% correct. I'm beginning to warm to you btw.

Well I'm sure they could be tempted to EDI if the price was right. Afterall GLA has pretty much the sane shops as EDI (or any other generic British high street). Besides EDI has so many more attractions. I think easyJet starting a route EDI-KEF would be very strong competition for Icelandair to GLA.

I reckon so too.

Claiming that the international shopping habits of Icelandic people would give FI the edge in Scotland is just about one of the flimsiest arguments I've read in here in a long time! Besides, if you want premier, globally-ranked shopping you'd go to Fifth Avenue or New Bond Street (direct from KEF!!)

I remember many years ago, Icelanders used MV Gulfoss sailing into Leith for their shopping trips. It's hard to imagine any airline these days giving enough baggage allowance to make airbourne shopping excursions viable.
Plus I doubt if there would be any difference in central Scotland retail prices.
Edinburgh is a strong inbound destination and would no doubt be more
attractive to airlines and pax alike.

I disagree that GLA-KEF route is a "shadow of its former self", it is a mature and ling established route. It was briefly daily when bith AC and FI fought for one stop access on Scotland-USA, however the coming of the alliances changed that market. Traditionally it was 2-3 weekly on a mixture of P2P and connections with extra Christmas flights. Glasgow btw is the biggest shoppin destination outside of London, it beats Manchester and more than beats Edinburgh. Indeed EDI used to see Christmas shopping flights from FI if I remember rightly. Anyway, it's all beginning to sound a bit like East v West all over again.

KEF will be confirmed this month as one of the five new routes from EDI for Easyjet.

There is a possibility that Sicily is finally connected to Edinburgh? I would hope a link Palermo-Edinburgh!
