DURHAM TEES VALLEY

To meet the new rules, a 'capital' thread for DTV

Anyway, on with the news, July pax numbers have been officially released.

DTV managed 97847 in July 2005, up from 86831 in July 2004, a percentage rise of 13% (lucky for some ). This puts us above Isle Of Man (71413), Exeter (92401) and Bournemouth (90662), those being the closest behind us . Our next target is the 171956 set by London City! Might take a while to reach that

bmi's LHR route was up 9%, Eastern's Aberdeen was up 19% (mainly due to the introduction of J41's twice a day) with the only other domestic routes both being way up! Newquay 100% (due to no service last July) and Jersey +32%

The internationals also did well....
Alicante was down (mixed in with charter)
Amsterdam -6%
Cork +100% (new service)
Dublin -4%
Malaga was down (mixed in with charter)
Nice -100% (no service this summer )
Palma was down (mixed in with charter)
Paris CDG +100% (new service)
Rome Ciampino +100% (8527 pax, avg 137 per flight, 72.5% load factor)

Newcastle's Milan Bergamo (FR) isn't shown for some reason

Shame to see that Baby's Spanish routes were down, but I believe this is due to a reduction in frequency........come on Baby, do it properly or don't do it at all!

I'm really interested to see the bmi figures from 1st August onwards for the LHR-MME service. Due to the new 'modular' concept at fares just as high as they were before, I've moved my weekly business travel to GNER.

I miss all the amazing people who work at MME but bmi would have to do something spectacular to recover my business. I know I'm far from the only one on GNER at the moment so the next figures will be telling.

Maybe its just me but I don't think those numbers are that good.

The only real positive numbers are the new routes, with continuing routes showing reductions. I'd like to see the WW like for like comparisons year on year to better judge.

The 2nd baby aircraft is still in the pipeline (though not confirmed). Two things I make from this; the loads are not sufficient enough to warrant a second aircraft or bringing in the 2nd aircraft increases the frequencies and therefore gives more choice and increases loads.

My view is *if* this second aircraft comes, loads will have to improve for the two to survive. At Baby would help if they started advertising a little around here.

MME really needs some infrastucture investment also; this will bring in more routes (potentially) but where will the investment come if the passenger loads don't increase enough? Catch 22.

You will have gathered from my previous posts, that despite being a big MME fan, I have big concerns over the future of our little airport and the future of the current routes being served.

The figures don't do baby justice. The loads have been excellent this summer, with pretty much full flights all season, whether the charter figures have been down and this has diluted the totals, I can only hazard a guess.
Pembo, the second baby 733 is already on the draught plots with effect from April which will see ALC & AGP go daily, PMI & CDG and maybe LGW increased and at least one new destination.
Maybe an increase from Eastern too

Interesting comments about the potential developments at DURHAM TEES VALLEY. All part of the joys of growing pains by the sound of it.

PS - who controls the subject titles of the new airport related threads? TEESIDE?S

mme - For info the NCL FR Bergamo in July had 9379 pax's, helping the airport(NCL) have its busiest month ever with 576022 pax's!

p.s. LIME had an even better month in August!

The figures for baby were down for the month (it is split between scheduled and charter, whereas the percentage isn't!). Nice to see two of the best routes going daily.....if only they had enough to do them all daily! Twice daily for CDG + LGW might get them somewhere. (Not that bmi would allow LGW to go 2x daily!)

Maybe an increase from Eastern too
This is already coming......Aberdeen goes 4x daily with J41's, with the new Bristol service using the J32 currently based!
Does anybody know what the J32 is going to do in between Bristol services? Currently a gap of around 4hrs if I remember correctly!

the NCL FR Bergamo in July had 9379 pax's
That is a shame for MME, miles ahead now! And no doubt NCL's DUB was way above (but they have 2 flights a day!) and with the new Oslo (Torp) flight starting, it looks like NCL have it in the bag, sadly

And finally, why did the thread get renamed? If your going to do a job, do it properly, it is TEESSIDE or DTV

Just a snippit of information.....

Next summer, First Choice have an additional flight to Arrecife (Lanzarote) on sale, to be flown by Spanair. This will make 2 flights to Arrecife on a Thursday afternoon, the other being MyTravel's Iberworld flight.

Well, it seems baby have seen sense at last!

Second aircraft from 28 March 2006 (start of the summer).....along with it comes:

- New route to Knock (why??)
- Paris CDG up from 4x weekly > 7x weekly
- Newquay back
- 30 new jobs (allegedly)

Takes us to 9 routes with bmibaby for next summer!

And my choice for the name of the aircraft?? Smoggie Baby

The number of weekly bmibaby departures will now double to 86!

So, it seems things may finally begin to look up! Why is it that the custom is there but we can't seem to pick it up?

I'd just like to announce my Durham Tees Valley Airport fansite:

Smile thank you

Hi,
Just wanted to say most of bmibaby mme-jer-mme sectors were chocker during the summer season.
Thank you to the crews who nearly always turned up early, (once we'd sussed you it was great.) Also thank you all for being so nice and eager to get going. As one of your loadcontrollers down here we very much appreciate a quick turnaround and if i could get you out 20mins early all the better, (then early shift could go home.) Keep smiling and hopefully see some of you throughout the winter.

and it will always be TEESSIDE NEVER durham tees valley rubbish!
