JET2 Pax figs?

Just been reading the LBA website and it claims that Jet2 carried 35.000 pax in Jan, meanwhile with just under 3 times the numder of aircraft bmibaby carried over 200.000 pax, now my maths ain't right good but if Jet2 have got 5 aircraft at Leeds with a 135 seats each doing (or should be?) say 4 rotations a day thats 4 x135 x 30(days) = 113400 per aircraft x 5 = 567000 seats a month. about 6% of what they could in theory handle. Ok now i know there are lots of variables but even if one aircraft is a spare and the others are only used every other day, its still not a lot

will they ever make any money?

Please i am not knocking them its just that i would have expected at least 60k pax per month with that size of fleet and a captive market. are these number right?

During Jan Jet2 didnīt operate the BCN flt which would have cut down that Pax figure, Jan is not a good month anyway, but Jet 2 now have 6 a/C but there is only 3 in operation if that, they average in total 6-9 flts a day, BTW JET2 hold 148Pax but your figure was based on full loads I take it, but not all airlines have full pax loads.

CHEERS!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Think you have some digital problems.

Using your data if it were 4 flights per day with 135 seats over 30 days that would be:

4 x 135 x 30 = 16200 seats per aircraft per month.

If in fact Jet2 have 3 aircraft with 148 seats doing 6 flights a day each then that would be:

3 x 148 x 6 x 30 = 79,920 seats or a load factor of:

35,000/79,920 = 44% - this seems low so it's likely that they don't do as many flights at the weekends as weekdays.

Anyone help with this?

With all the spare a/c capacity that JET2 have on the ground at LBA they are able to offer their services on the lucrative subcharter market. They are also able to offer an aircraft for charter work at almost any time of the week.
In this respect they are getting lots of revenue that would not have been taken into account in their original plans. In recent weeks it has become an almost daily occurance for an extra couple of rotations to appear for one reason or another.
I do not know what they charge for charter work ( anyone know the going rate for a B737-300 charter, say 1500nm and 8 hrs duty??? ) but i would expect that it would pay the bills with a fair wedge to spare.

As for the load factor i would guess that there are between 90 and 100 revenue rotation per week ( Best L/Controller may be able to give a more accurate figure).
100 flights per week = 425 ish per month x 148 seats = 63,000 ish seats. Which would give a load factor of 55% ish. As Jan is a pretty dead month and taking into account the new year reduced schedule these are not bad figure.
Let's not forget that Jet2 are not filing all the seats with Ģ1 fares like some other lo-co's so their breakeven figure may be low compared with RYR for example.

Who knows, they could already be making a profit this winter!!!!

This morning was the first time this week that there've not been four 737's parked up as I pass at 8.45. Lots of cabin crew recruitment and training going on at the Holiday Inn. Today appeared to be "Blind Date" day.

Having previously checked out the Jet2 timetables for the winter fairly closely "nibor" is a lot closer than KAT TOO.

I get a figure of just over 54,000 seats available in January (on 148 seats per sector).

This gives a load factor of 64%.

Obviously not earth shattering but not a disaster by any margin and as stated by nibor there were numorous adhoc charters which don't appear in this number.

Jet have been running several very cheap flight promotions recently and if you check out their Low Fare Finder you will see there are not many of those left, especially around school holiday periods.

PTH needs tarmac

PS January has 31 days

Interesting that they are doing ad-hoc charter do other loco do that sort of thing and if not why not? it seems Jet2 have found a money making scheme thats nothing to do with what they are?

Thumbs up

Remember also that some of the 737 fleet covers night mail / freight. Forecast to be cash neutral by end of 2004, quite impressive for a company set up with cash from its parent company and not involving borrowing from external sources. Channex / Dart must be very pleased. Good luck to them, they appear to have created a successful new business model.
