Is Security safe at MAN ??

It Sickens me to see the smug grins on the faces of the directors of Manchester Airport “(You Fat Cats, Metro News, November 7).”
Security workers have had their lives irreparably damaged by wage cuts yet they reward themselves with as much as 40 per cent Increases on what are already inflated salaries.
An article In Metro News written over twelve months ago by Helen Tither first brought the wage cuts to my attention. I seem to remember that the airport would remain "efficient" and security would not be "compromised". I beg to differ I travelled to Majorca in August and queued for over an hour to reach the security check to find that only one of the gates was open and manned by only five guards.
On questioning the length of time spent in the queue, I was told that it was due to extra security I set off the alarm due to a buckle on my belt and was given a very brief body search. For this "extra" security I had paid a supplement of £9.
I chose to ignore the situation at the time but your article has angered me so much that I write to you in the hope that the people of the North West can feel protected when travelling through Manchester Airport. I fear it is only a matter of time before a major incident occurs due to financial decisions being made which I feel have compromised my safety. Where has my £9 been spent? Where is the extra security? Why are the staff feeling demoralised? Did September 11 tell us nothing? How can the directors enjoy such increases when ordinary members of staff have suffered 40 per cent wage decreases? Too many questions left unanswered.
Security has been compromised at the expense of shareholders, directors' salaries and profits and I, as a member of the general public, am not prepared to stand by and watch this happen. I applaud you for bringing this situation to our attention but I will not feel safe travelling through Manchester Airport until such a time that manning levels are brought to a reasonable level and security guards are remunerated for the responsible job being done.

Manchester Airport is owned by 10 Greater Manchester Councils and their councillors sit on the airport board. So they must have agreed to these salaries. Could, you tell us how much the councillors are paid for their services to the airport? It would be interesting reading.

The directors of Manchester Airport are no better or worse than most other UK companies which look after the top management and treat the rest of the workforce with contempt.
The workers have only themselves to blame. They are politically apathetic and vote in corrupt and incompetent union leadership and have a blind faith in a Labour party which also treats them with contempt.
Until they are prepared to fight for some workers rights these disparities will continue and we will coninue to be known in Europe as the coolies of the European Union.

The question I would like to ask is a simple one. Why the hell are these people being allowed to get away with it? The travelling public are being ripped off by these greedy directors. ooooohhhhhhhhh they make me mad .. the board at MAN just gave themselfs a 20% pay rise whilst the workers fight for 3.4% dont they realise that without the workers there would be no airport so no money and no board 
And as for security well that is a joke in it's self every morning i go throught security cheek point and everyday i set the metal detector off and what happens to me i get an air frisk (i.e they dont even touch me* ..... in the near futuer i can see a big security breach and by then it will be to late major incident and maybe live's lost

737 And 767 Hit Each Other At Man On Stand
737 HITS 767 ARRIVING ON STAND!!
Cant belive that this has not been on here...unless ive missed it
Sat 15 th Nov a 737-800 hit a BY767 coming on to stand at T2 rumour has it the 737 came on stand on the wrong line ...with the wing tip saying hello to the wing of the 767...who was at fault not for me to say but i think that someone in for an a**e kicking i was always to belive that on T2 that ops always marshalled on to stand.....so u wouldnt expect this kind of thing to happen
i heard that it was 2 hrs before the pax got off and that it took 2 tugs to bring the 2 aircraft apart lots of damage to both aircraft and that rumour has it that the 737 has to go back to boeing as the airframe is damaged
well dont know who will be paying the bill for that one...but glad it aint me!

You should have been in Plymouth in 1984 (I think it was), I watched a DHC7 taxi into the terminal building with all 4 props turning, no pax on board though, they were still inside the unfortunate terminal!

Why does it take so long to get ones luggage at MAN these days (T2)? It's way longer than the norm.
I keep planning to raise hell when I get through customs, but the urge to get home wins.

Passenger travelling today on Virgin to Orlando from Man managed to get all the way to Orlando before handing in the knife she had in her hand luggageGood old Manchester Probably sort on security staff again

Some of the stand guidence and markings at Manchester are very bad! I can't answer for terminal 2 but at terminal 1 in the wet or at night the stand lead in lines can be very hard to see and some of the docking systems are also poor. Not a great situation for an international airport.

refuring to the 738 and the by767 coming together ..... it was the marshalers fault . on T2 they are guided on by trafic lights yes it was going up the wrong line but the marshler did not spot this and oops they mated.......
the 738 winglet was damaged and taken off then flown to AMS fror some airframe test i belive and as for the by 767 it is still u/s with lots off engeners going ummm and ahhhhh and a lot of head scratching

Ref to Mr rampman,the BY767 was only damaged at the wingtip luckily it did not damage the aileron. A wingtip was robbed from another 767 on a 'c' check at LTN and flown up to MAN. The damaged 767 was back in service less than 18 hrs after the event, all handled very swiftly and professionally by Bri engineering as usual.

Any idea what is wrong with the BY 763 at Glasgow, it has been sitting around for a few days now doing nothing... it might well be serviceable with no work but you dont normally see a BY 763 hang around up here for any period of time??

The BY B763 is just parked at GLA, there is nothing wrong with it. It does a PFO flight and other ad-hoc stuff I believe. Not much work for the B763 fleet at the moment until they all start leaving for Indo on 17Dec.

Manchester Airport are currently in the process of conducting an emloyee survey.
Apparently Geoff Muirhead cares about his emloyees and wants their views.
The results will be published on this site when available.

A Leeds responce to security
Security at Leeds is no better, however I feel security staff at airports are treated in general like crap!! They're not making airports any money so, untill something actually happens, managers are quite happy to P?SS all over them.
At Leeds security persons apparently get only 5.36ph. Its only a matter of time before something serious happens in the UK.
Low and behold those with the powers to act.... just sitting there doing sod all.
PS. 5.36ph seen a job for public toilet cleaner 5.32ph?????????
