Holy smoke.
Most of you guys here have VERY impressive CV's.
Lots of TR's for big birds and many hours experience.
Is it really that difficult finding a job with such CV's?

Jobs - Africa

I am just newly qualified in the UK with a frozen JAA ATPL. 232 hours.
I used to work all over east and southern africa for approx. 5 years and hope to get a flying job somewhere.
I have looked into Maun (Sefofane, Mack Air) and Lusaka (proflight) and have emailled them. Are there any other places that are good for low hours foreigners ?
Can you get work on the humanitarian/aid side with low hours ?
What sort of money can you expect to be paid ? (loan repayments !!!)
Any information would be much appreciated

Whats the diffs?

What is the difference between pilots advertising themselves here, which is allowed, and someone looking for crew here which is not?

737

Hi folks!
I just finished my 737 Type Rating.
I heared now, that in South Africa they are changing rules? Only jobs for nationals? I was wondering, where else could I fly with 737... Have 2000 total and 600 multi, FAA, any ideas somebody?

Kapt 20th Sep 2008 13:22

You need a least 500h in type. Only type rating do you no good. There are many many pilots with many houres as PIC that are lookin in to Aisa and eles where for jobs. Good luck

Carrier 20th Sep 2008 23:16

I could not help noticing a post above in which someone claiming a total time of 3850 hours claims to have 1650 hours of instrument time.

As a rule of thumb instrument time is normally between 5% and 10% of total time, depending on where one is flying. Anything much above the 10% level would be most unusual and would require some explaining. Any resume with such numbers is likely to go straight in to the garbage can. What’s the point of posting figures such as those mentioned?

MozYank 20th Sep 2008 23:43

I was just thinking the same thing. I think he's a bit infamous on both the Africa boards.

low707 21st Sep 2008 08:01

Try Air-Tec. They fly Let 410's in Algeria for the oil companies there and the pay is not bad. You'll get multi turbine hours quickly. Sure they will help with the rating.

Jobs in Africa, there lots apparently

Havnt a clue where to start, all i know is that during training i met a couple of people from Africa who where aid flying in king airs and cessnas, they were converting there licenses to get jobs here, but they were saying that there are lots of flying jobs in Africa but its just not safe. As a newly qualified pilot, im wondering where these jobs are?, aid flying/bush flying?? I have an airline job lined up in about 6 months but in the meantime im looking into what i can do flying wise. Thanks guys

eikido 26th Sep 2008 06:42

Job market in Africa at the moment?

How does the job market look in Africa at the moment? The airline industry is in a deep deep recession worldwide, but how is Africa suffering?
Think a pilot with 250h with no experience get the chance of getting hired?

I'm not looking for a job, i'm not even a pilot, i'm just curious.:}
