HOW DO I BECOME A PILOT IN NIGERIA?
Hi everyone, I am Femi, a 23 year old married Nigerian Pilot to be. I need some help from my Nigerian brothers (Pilots) here and indeed everyone on this forum. I am so highly passionate about flying and hope to fly for a good Nigerian airline soon

However, I'm not sure I totally know the rudiments and requirements needed to fly in Nigeria. My questions are as follows:
---> Which flight schools are best (highly recognised) by airlines in Nigeria?
---> Do we now need an ATPL to fly in Nigeria?
---> How many hours do Nigerian airlines request for?
---> Kindly suggest any persons or institutions who can sponsor a person to flight school
PS: I just got admission into a US flight school AEROSIM FLIGHT ACADEMY and the amount needed for the total training Nd other expenses is appx $110,000. I really need some assistance.

Thanks Jimmy. I already got admission into AEROSIM. NORMALLY their CPL is $49,990 or so. However I'll be coming from over 6,000 miles, I know no one in Sanford Florida and most of all my M1 visa would not permit me to work. A combination of the tuition, accommodation, supplies and a whole lot of basic expenses brings it to $110,000.

Gotta love how you're already calling yourself "captain"... how many hours you got? Make sure you get a captain's business card and wear a pilot uniform at the bars/clubs...

There are rich folks who can do this. There are companies who can do this. Even if it's a loan. I will repay. Maybe slowly... But I will repay. Calling myself Captain is something I'll call FAITH.
PS.: I wouldn't mind the $60,000 per diem

I don't think many companies have that kind of cash to sponsor a wannabe pilot.
Maybe try to find some government sponsored scheme.....Does Nigeria have a national carrier ? At the moment there are pilots paying companies to hire them while they fly for free....Its called P2F.
Pay 2 fly. So in a nutshell your chances of getting a "sponsored CPL" are slim to None.

I'll work as much and as hard as I can to ensure I raise the money. I also hope to get some good sponsors, no matter their price. I will start my Airline Piloting job next year!

Plus, deeply insulting to a chap who, if possibly a bit naive, only wants to be a pilot as much as (I presume) you do, and is reaching out to a community of Professional Pilots for advice, and in friendship.
Femi - I know Nigeria (good and bad) really well. Good luck with your ambition, and I'll listen out for a Pax announcement from Capt Femi on Arik or Medair one day, en route from ABV to KAN.

Back on topic...
CAPT.FEMI, for the first three questions, you need to contact the aviation regulator and various airlines in Nigeria to get this information. Spending $110,000 based on internet chat would not be a wise move.

Thing is, I'm an African, I live in Africa, I work in Africa. The vast majority of my fellow Africans, from Morocco to the Cape, are dignified, hard-working and ambitious. They are also (generally) socially conservative, respectful, and well-mannered, in a way that has apparently disappeared from the north-west corner of the planet.
So I'm fed up with arrogant, ignorant outsiders mocking and humiliating those Africans who are brave enough, and determined enough, to try to make our continent a better place, and make a decent life for themselves here, instead of getting on a leaky boat and sailing to Europe.
It's only two hundred years or so ago - say, 10 generations - that you lot were burning people at the stake for being "witches"; and only four generations ago that it was entirely acceptable for American and European politicians to bribe their way into power; and only two generations ago that you lot fought a war that killed more people in six years than all the conflicts in Africa put together in the past fifty years.
So when I hear or read insulting, offensive and frankly racist comments aimed at chap who will be bewildered by the hostility and the mockery of Linerider and others, sure, I get annoyed, and frustrated, and defensive.
I'm entirely sure that Femi can look after himself. But I think it may be pertinent that he hasn't been back on the thread since it degenerated into a childish mock-fest.

I don't blame Linerider. I already sent a pm to CAPT FEMI with an invitation to discuss his ambition over a few beers whilst I give him some tips. I presume he has not seen the pm up till now.
