HOW DO I BECOME A PILOT IN NIGERIA?
Hi everyone, I am Femi, a 23 year old married Nigerian Pilot to be. I need some help from my Nigerian brothers (Pilots) here and indeed everyone on this forum. I am so highly passionate about flying and hope to fly for a good Nigerian airline soon
. However, I'm not sure I totally know the rudiments and requirements needed to fly in Nigeria. My questions are as follows: ---> Which flight schools are best (highly recognised) by airlines in Nigeria? ---> Do we now need an ATPL to fly in Nigeria? ---> How many hours do Nigerian airlines request for? ---> Kindly suggest any persons or institutions who can sponsor a person to flight school PS: I just got admission into a US flight school AEROSIM FLIGHT ACADEMY and the amount needed for the total training Nd other expenses is appx $110,000. I really need some assistance. Thanks in advance for your help, advice and answers. |

Okkayy. So you're looking for someone to sponsor your flight training and give you a $60,000 per diem while training... why am i not surprised? Gotta love how you're already calling yourself "captain"... how many hours you got? Make sure you get a captain's business card and wear a pilot uniform at the bars/clubs...

I don't think many companies have that kind of cash to sponsor a wannabe pilot.
Maybe try to find some government sponsored scheme.....Does Nigeria have a national carrier ? At the moment there are pilots paying companies to hire them while they fly for free....Its called P2F. Pay 2 fly. So in a nutshell your chances of getting a "sponsored CPL" are slim to None. |
JEEEZ!
Ghost_Rider737 thank you so much. Your reply is such an eye-opener. I'll work as much and as hard as I can to ensure I raise the money. I also hope to get some good sponsors, no matter their price. I will start my Airline Piloting job next year! God will do it! |

Femi, seems we have been blessed the same. I received this in the mail. I am in a fortunate position that I don't need this fantastic benefaction.
He is also from Nigeria, and his name is Brian Potter. Wikipedia lists the name Brian as this ''Brian (sometimes spelled Bryan) is a male given name of Irish and Breton origin, as well as a surname of Occitan origin. It is common in the English-speaking world. It is possible that the name is derived from an Old Celtic word meaning "high" or "noble". His letter says this Dear Reverend Tokunbo God bless you and how are you today? Your letter has come to the right place. My name is Father Brian Potter of the Church of Bread and Wine (please see a photograph of one of our newest churches attached, we have nearly 300 churches in our ministry). I must say that you are working for a wonderful cause reverend. Our ministry also helps homeless women and children by providing them with new homes, jobs and care. I think I may be able to help you reverend Tokunbo. You see, my ministry regularly makes charitable donations to worthy causes, and after speaking with my committee members just a few minutes ago, we are of the opinion that your cause is indeed very worthy, and if you will allow us we would like to make a donation to your cause to help you in your Godly work with the widows of Nigeria, which I am told is a very Christian and Godly country. Your case seems very worthwhile, and whilst we cannot donate very large amounts ( because we have already made many successful donations this year ) I think that the church would be able to send you the small sum of US $274,330 (two hundred and seventy four thousand, three hundred and thirty dollars). We are usually able to donate larger amounts but at the moment are funds are quite limited as we are at the end of our financial year. This money would be sent to you in a manner of your choosing, and hopefully it would enable you to help the widows and also forward the word of God much more easily. Of course, we do not send out payments without going through the proper procedures, so if you would like to claim the cash, these are the steps you will need to take: 1. The Church or Bread and Wine will send you a agreement form, which you will have to complete and sign. 2. On receipt of the form, we will require a photographs of you, or a trusted representative as proof of identity. You will have to get a NEW photographs taken, holding two symbol of ours. The two symbols we need you to hold are a loaf of bread and a bottle of wine (the name of our church). This proves that the person in the photograph is genuine. Passport or other photographs will NOT be accepted. If you agree to the two conditions above, we will attach the agreement form for you to complete, and then after that we will explain to you what type of photograph we need from you. Please do not send a photograph until we have explained how we want the photograph to be taken. On receipt of a SATISFACTORY photograph, we will immediately forward the $274,330.00 to you in a manner of your choice. Please let me know ASAP if you are interested in my offer Mr.Tokunbo and I will forward you the agreement for your signature ASAP. May God bless you, Father Brian Potter The Church of Bread and Wine |
Wouaouh! I know that your prayers will be answered but I didn't expect that in less than 48 hours!
Dude, with this amount you can even pay for your wife's training also :) I just ask you a favour, only one, please send also the photo of you holding the bread and the bottle. |
I concur. @iznogood

grow up
Linerider - get a grip, buddy. Not funny, not clever. Actually, just really, really childish.
Plus, deeply insulting to a chap who, if possibly a bit naive, only wants to be a pilot as much as (I presume) you do, and is reaching out to a community of Professional Pilots for advice, and in friendship. Femi - I know Nigeria (good and bad) really well. Good luck with your ambition, and I'll listen out for a Pax announcement from Capt Femi on Arik or Medair one day, en route from ABV to KAN. R |

Back on topic... CAPT.FEMI, for the first three questions, you need to contact the aviation regulator and various airlines in Nigeria to get this information. Spending $110,000 based on internet chat would not be a wise move. |
Therapy
Thanks for the therapy, guys. Should I send someone a hundred bucks for the advice?
Thing is, I'm an African, I live in Africa, I work in Africa. The vast majority of my fellow Africans, from Morocco to the Cape, are dignified, hard-working and ambitious. They are also (generally) socially conservative, respectful, and well-mannered, in a way that has apparently disappeared from the north-west corner of the planet. So I'm fed up with arrogant, ignorant outsiders mocking and humiliating those Africans who are brave enough, and determined enough, to try to make our continent a better place, and make a decent life for themselves here, instead of getting on a leaky boat and sailing to Europe. It's only two hundred years or so ago - say, 10 generations - that you lot were burning people at the stake for being "witches"; and only four generations ago that it was entirely acceptable for American and European politicians to bribe their way into power; and only two generations ago that you lot fought a war that killed more people in six years than all the conflicts in Africa put together in the past fifty years. So when I hear or read insulting, offensive and frankly racist comments aimed at chap who will be bewildered by the hostility and the mockery of Linerider and others, sure, I get annoyed, and frustrated, and defensive. I'm entirely sure that Femi can look after himself. But I think it may be pertinent that he hasn't been back on the thread since it degenerated into a childish mock-fest. |
I don't blame Linerider. I already sent a pm to CAPT FEMI with an invitation to discuss his ambition over a few beers whilst I give him some tips. I presume he has not seen the pm up till now. :ugh:
The invitation is still open though. |
