Here's my rule of thumb though for reversing the -200: NEVER DO IT. I know the manual says you can.....but just don't.

Why would one opt to do such a procedure, given the amount of room to manoeuvre, weather etc.....Apparently all is not well with this operator, crews unhappy and fixing to leave. I guess its true, pay peanuts get monkeys!

Captain wasn't exactly a monkey. He was a highly experienced guy, that just made a bad judgement call on the day. We all have the potential to screw up, one just hopes it doesn't happen to you.
The report has been finalised here:
http://www.caa.co.za/resource%20cent.../2011/0825.pdf
3.2 Probable Cause/s
3.2.1 Inappropriate decision by the captain to reverse the aircraft at night without external guidance.
4. SAFETY RECOMMENDATIONS
4.1 None.

I haven't read the report but assuming the above post to be correct, I thought the primary reason for accident investigation was not to appoint blame, but rather to introduce measures to prevent the same occurrence from happening again. The above summary seems to be the complete opposite.
