No problem!!!

I know somebody who is going right know with the 500h program in the 320
at TunisAir, so let me know if you need any info. Although I still think is a
better idea to try to get a job where you donīt have to pay for but.........

Sure thing. Remember that next time you're turned down for a position because a less qualified person is willing to work for less and pay for his rating himself.

Keep on Trucking

Hi T9,

Firstly... Don't let the comments on this forum get you down... Most of the guys who will shoot down your question are not worth listening to anyway!

1. A simulator based (Zero Flight Time Rating) conversion for an A340 will cost much the same as one on a B737, Dash-8, CRJ or A320. So that is not really the issue, and such conversions may be arranged via a number of providers in the USA, Canada, or in Europe.

2. A rating on an applicable type (as used by your target employer) will most certainly make you competitive in an application process.

3. There are a number of airlines, most specifically in the East, who will look at your application if rated. Try talking to a company like Rishworth Aviation to determine the exact market and requirements.

Good luck Mate!

I'm suprised nobody has brought up the Smiling Crocodile... he'll take your/your daddy's hard earned dinero, type rate you and even let you have the honour of flying the EMB120/ B732 for a mininmal salary every month. He might even pay you your salary he owes you within 3 months of payday

Ok so I'm being a bit sarcastic but I' not far off. question is, how does the man get away with it? Surely flying for those guys with the Orange 800's doesnt allow him to fly for other airlines because of A) contractual obligation and B) FDP considerations. I've heard stories of guys doing a DAR and back from Lusaka then paxing back to JNB to do their normal days flying etc. Surely the powers that be know about this as it's not exactly a well kept secret?

Go to Maun

Pack your bags and go to Maun. Simple as that. A340 rating? Why would you want to do that? WORK and MAKE money on what you can! If its a 206, so be it. You cannot ask the bank to buy you that experience!

These guys who say they have looked everywhere for work and cant find any simply arent trying hard enough! Go to Maun, Namibia, Zambia, Tanzania. You will find something!

If you want to go and pay for a type rating after getting a thousand hours (or probably more) then go for it if you think the numbers add up. By this stage you will probably have a(slightly) better idea of what this industry is about.
But coming out of flight school and buying a decent sized jet rating wont get you too far.
Living in a s...t hole for a while will also teach you a few more things than just flying an aeroplane.
10 points for looking and planning ahead mate but starting at the bottom will make getting to the top all that much more sweeter.

Best of luck
