Hi T9,

Firstly... Don't let the comments on this forum get you down... Most of the guys who will shoot down your question are not worth listening to anyway!

1. A simulator based (Zero Flight Time Rating) conversion for an A340 will cost much the same as one on a B737, Dash-8, CRJ or A320. So that is not really the issue, and such conversions may be arranged via a number of providers in the USA, Canada, or in Europe.

2. A rating on an applicable type (as used by your target employer) will most certainly make you competitive in an application process.

3. There are a number of airlines, most specifically in the East, who will look at your application if rated. Try talking to a company like Rishworth Aviation to determine the exact market and requirements.

Good luck Mate!
