Entebbe, Uganda - A cargo plane contracted by Ethiopian Airlines and heading to Togo crash landed on Saturday at Uganda's Entebbe airport and five crew members were injured, airport officials said here.
"The cargo plane overshot the runway, but on the second attempt, it crash-landed," Ugandan airbase commander Major Moses Rwakitarate told reporters.
"The crew members sustained some slight injuries and one of them might have broken his arm," he added.
Ethiopian Airlines said in a statement released in Addis Ababa that the Ghana-registered plane, which was leased from Cargo Plus Aviation, crashed at it was landing to refuel in Uganda.
A staff member of Ethiopian Airlines in Kampala said the plane, which departed from Addis Ababa early on Saturday, was headed to the Togolese capital Lome.
"The plane is wrecked. (The incident) happened some time between 8am and 10am (05:00 and 07:00 GMT)," the official said.
The airline said the cause of the accident was being probed.
"Due to the excess demand Ethiopian Airlines is leasing more than five aircraft from different companies," the airline's statement explained.

Nothing much more to add to it, it pretty much went as described in the article above. Crew was still in the hospital yesterday. Ethiopian and Ghana CAA going to Entebbe this week and do their own investigation....

The other side of the story
Being there and having seen the wreck 30 minutes after it happened, makes you wonder about the official story. Firstly, the weather was cloudy with a base of about 10 000ft and a calm wind. So both runways were being used 17/35. You will notice that from the photo's that the wreck was lying just off to the right of 35.
The story we heard was that they were doing an approach on 17, did a go around and landed short on 35. Maybe fuel might be a factor in the accident (or lack thereof). But judge for yourselfs. Goto this link
to have a look at the pictures we took 15 minutes after the accident.

Thanks Gunny, Funny, not too long ago I remember an an12 doing an emergency landing on locki with almost no fuel. When the authorities questioned the crew, they realised that the crew filed the opposite threshold as their alternate.
Like my OLD, BOLD, Instructor used to say "SON, there is only one time when too much fuel is a problem, and that is when you are on fire"
