Sacaa
Had occasion to visit the SACAA at their new HQ in Midrand - easy access, enough parking, 6 "client help desks" and 30 minutes from entry to exit (license update) - plus had a cuppachino from the canteen at R6 - on the whole a pleasant enough experience. Thought I'd just mention this - they're usually in for some flak!

ANVAK, for those of us from out of town, please give a brief description of how to get to the new offices (say from the M1). It's nice to find someone who has something good to say about the CAA.

I was also at the CAA today. Their new phone number is 011-5451000. After trying to get thru to the switchboard for about 2 hours with no one answering, I arrived there and politely asked the receptionist if there was something wrong with their phone lines. She rudely told me "cant you see I'm on my own and the switchboard is busy". When I said yes, but its a business and the phones should be answered, I again got the same answer, just a bit MORE rudely. Eeesch! The new SACAA. Then people wonder why one criticises the CAA. Nice building though, very much open plan, seating and cafeteria. No shops close by, so the employees must eat "in house", that is of course if you like "pap & derms".
Its very easy to find. Going from JHB to PTA on the cement highway (Ben Schoeman) take the Kyalami Offramp (Allandale Rd). Turn left at the top of the offramp, and go towards Kyalami. At the first traffic light (Becker Street) turn right, and proceed 500 meters up the road. The entrance to Waterfall Park is on your right. You have to get a visitors tag at the gate. Once thru the gate proceed to a round about, go clockwise around the roundabout, proceed down the road over a small bridge, and turn left into TREUR Close. Right ahead you will find the Kaia of Flight.
When are you next here 4HP?

Frightening!
The last place I worked in the IT industry before trying to crap in my boss' ashtray as an alternative to choking him the day I left to begin flying for a living is the building directly under the "ker" in Bekker Street.
Never thought I'd ever have to go near that place again.

Thanks very much.

Francois....
Why so harsh, they're still trying to find their feet, lets cut them some slack...for the time being. Thereafter we may continue being the whining whingers we enjoy being.
The other guy got a cappuccino for SIX BUCKS, yet we STILL nag!

Well 4HP - while I've been out flying, PPrune regulars replied in detail! I'm attaching a quote from the CAA published in African Pilot's newsletter - self explanatory (and I didn't correct the spelling errors, so its all original):
Received from the SA Civil Aviation Authority
Through your publication, on behalf of CAA, we wish to assure your readers, who are our customers, tha, "We will ensure that CAA is committed to improving service to our clients. The CAA management team wants to assure our customers and the public out there that we welcome criticism and any information that can help improve our service. We believe that, only through partnership with the public and customers, can CAA succeed in its mandate. We want to encourage everyone to point out to us areas that need improvement. They can do this through the CEO Mr. Machobane or myself, Gilbert Thwala. There will be no retribution. In fact, CAA management does not want our employees to victimise the customers in any way. If, indeed, this does happen, please let us know: e-mail: [email protected]
At your service,

For 6 bucks and a cup of coffee; who's license do you you actually get back?
A few years ago they issued plastic licenses for nothing-to the given few!!!
I enjoyed the photo as a navigation excercise, makes sense

6 Bucks???
Many moons ago that "Most Impressed" photo of Christo would have been the "HOT STUFF" in an establishement called JARIC (oops, am I allowed to say that?) in the then good/bad old SA...SADF...SAAF...whatever. Those (the then)3D gogs when evaluating the recce photos...nogal low level tactical oblique and not high altitude vertical...man...it brings back memories...!! The guys in the RZ's and R2Z's did the job then. Suppose you can do it in a C150 now... but then The R is not worth much now...the ZAR that is...6.15???? Must be the dollar's fault. Back to me smoking wine corks...betta than Zim grass...pukka gen .
I neglected to point out...the above was not aimed at the SA CAA...you won't believe...but you can have good times with them as well. I have had those experiences. Believe it or not!
Just memories of times long gone...the good, the bad, the ugly and the sad, but fun and action was had by all (on both sides)...
Taildraggers teaches you what the 5th dimension is all about...
