Maun!?
Does anyone have a clue of what's going on in Maun town these days? Are they still hiring at this time. I heard there were a lot of jobs at the end of the year but also getting snatched up very quickly. Have they all been taken yet?

Ducky Fuzz - there are a couple of jobs going here at the moment - also a couple of guys walking around looking.
Only way to know for sure is to come on over.
Bring Beer.
and pretzels!

Beer and Pretzels?
Dnk, when tracking your postings it seems, the only shortage in Maun happens to beer and pretzels. Hard to believe when watching TV-reports, presenting drunken Maun-pilots to the rest of the world.

Dnk, Thanks bro. Have heard mixed reports on how the availability has actually run a bit dry since most jobs have already been taken. But will look into it. And bring pretzels.

Unfortunately it seems most people serve either God or Mamon. A few seem to serve both?? In the aviation world it is quite rare to find one who serves neither.
You could look at Air Serve, a US org a bit like MAF, I believe mostly staffed by Christians, although not so strict. Then there is the UN, but their flying seems to be all subcontracted. Then there is Pilotes san Avions, who seem to be a bit French (or possibly Belgian), as far as I could work out they were all volunteers or on some sort of paid leave from an airline with more fringe benefits than usually found these days.
Don't know if thats any help?

not-so-religious-flying-position
There is a charitable organization called Flying Medical Service based in Arusha, Tanzania. They are a completely volunteer medical service (pilots are volunteers), fly two C206s into very challenging bush airstrips (short, narrow, high-altitude on ridges).
It's a minimum three year commitment and you have to be willing to learn basic first aid skills like give immunizations. The main service is their bush outreach clinics and it's the pilot's job to give about 100 shots a day to babies. It also serves as an air ambulance.
And to answer your question, it's not religious- it serves neither god nor "mamon"- just the Tanzanian people- usually the poor. You can search for the organization's website on google or something and see some cool pictures.
The thing with this position is that it's not just a flying position- the pilots really go out of their ways to help people (when they land in Arusha they're the ones to drive the patient to the hospital sometimes). Your heart has to be in a job like this.

There are actually roughly 5 positions open in Maun at the moment - and there arent any guys running around looking - so right now is a good time to come.

This thread has now been running for nearly five and a half years, is 75 pages in length and runs to nearly 750 posts.
