not-so-religious-flying-position

There is a charitable organization called Flying Medical Service based in Arusha, Tanzania. They are a completely volunteer medical service (pilots are volunteers), fly two C206s into very challenging bush airstrips (short, narrow, high-altitude on ridges).

It's a minimum three year commitment and you have to be willing to learn basic first aid skills like give immunizations. The main service is their bush outreach clinics and it's the pilot's job to give about 100 shots a day to babies. It also serves as an air ambulance.

And to answer your question, it's not religious- it serves neither god nor "mamon"- just the Tanzanian people- usually the poor. You can search for the organization's website on google or something and see some cool pictures.

The thing with this position is that it's not just a flying position- the pilots really go out of their ways to help people (when they land in Arusha they're the ones to drive the patient to the hospital sometimes). Your heart has to be in a job like this.
