guys ..do post questions on thread only ..so that every1 can see it rather than sending on some emails then ask again for questions.

i think this is better way to spread across questions..

Question

Hey can u please explain me the solution for this question..

You are flying at FL 160. Outside air temperature is -27° C, and the pressure at sea level is 1003 hPa. What is the true altitude?
A) 15090 feet.
B) 16910 feet.
C) 15630 feet.
D) 16370 feet.
Ans is (A) 15090

How are we getting 15090??

True altitude = Indicated altitude + (ISA dev x 4 x Thousands of feet)

= 16000 + (-10 x 4 x 16)
= 16000+(-640)
= 16000-640
= 15360ft (on 1013.25)
Height difference is 1013-1003=10Hpa
therefore 10Hpa x 30= 300ft of height difference between 1013 and 1003

so 15360ft-300ft=
15060FT(1003hpa)

silly numerical man!!!

you made me remember my primary school days man thanks

For true altitude altimeter will be set to 1003 which is the sea level pressure given. so 1013-1003=10*30=300 ft under-reading when set to SLP.

true altitude under standard temp conditions would be 16000-300=15700ft

ISA temp at FL 160=15-32=-17 degrees.Given OAT= -27 degrees which is 10 degrees lower than standard temp.

we know, for every 10 degree warmer atmosphere from standard,we add 4% of indicated to get true altitude. In this case its 10 degrees colder so we will subtract 4%of 15700=628ft under reading

so true altitude 15700-628=15072ft.

P.S.-Though I m not very sure, but acc to me this should be the probable solution to this question.Cheers!!!

100 questions in 2 hours was quite a challenge making it very tough to recollect much of it, will however prepare a question bank with whatever i remember, good luck to everyone preparing for the remaining exam dates

@yash
