Don't know what the aircraft is but would suggest the wire in question may well be part of the radio aerial system and runs from wingtip to tail thereby avoiding the prop!

I would agree with Midland Counties as a good source, if you are after older books try Brian Cocks near Peterborough, he advertises in Flypast I think, his stock is massive and his knowlege amazing.

Tangmere Airfield Museum

Small but beautifully formed!

This museum holds some very nice aeroplanes including 2 former world airspeed record holders, but it is the human interest side of the museum which makes it for me....
