Some are even more revolting than others...
But accepting a charge for a landing is a private agreement/contract between the landing site owner and the helicopter operator, so it's unclear how it could be legislated out.
I know of a school that charges £750 for a helicopter landing. If you ring the school the "Business Generation Manager" replies and books you in and takes the money in advance. No services are received, just the permission to land on the playing fields. Not only that, because it's in a congested area, a Rule 5(3)(c) permission is also required from the CAA (please allow 28 days notice for processing your application). That's another £113.
In UK at least, helicopters are truly seen as the mere playthings of the rich and the occupants therefore need ripping off.

Hi All
I recently had a negative experience with the Holiday Inn at Bristol. I was told that in order to land there, I would need to demonstrate £25M insurance cover, and pay £250 landing fee. This hotel has a helipad and is set in 16 acres of land !!!
I was actually involved in a charity trip connected with the Children's Air Ambulance, and was incensed to hear this and so I found an alternative site. I decided to write to them and politely but firmly explain to them how ridiculous their policy is, in terms of both their insurance requirement, and their landing fee. I now do this whenever I encounter a 'negative' attitude towards helicopters. It's almost turning into a crusade, although I'm happy to report that I don't encounter it too often.
Although nothing has changed, I have had the area Manager of the hotel's contact me to explain that they are looking into the insurance requirement which they realise is probably prohibitive and also that their landing fee is discretionary - and that they would almost certainly waive it for anyone staying in the hotel.
He's promised to give me an update and I'm happy to report that he seemed to be quite positive and appreciative of the positive impact that helicopters can have on hotels etc...............
I'll provide an update when i have one but I'm happy to report that challenging their policy seems to have at least been a good idea.

Filming request
Hello all, I'm new to the forum and actually not a pilot but I"m wondering whether anyone can help me with a query I have.
I'm currently working on a new gameshow for Channel 4 and we're looking for somewhere that we could land a helicopter close to London. Ideally it would be land that also had a hangar/large empty building that we could set up a game in.
Filming would be on the afternoon of Saturday 2nd November.
Any help would be much appreciated!

Contact White Waltham airfield which straddles the western boundary of the London zone.
It does this sort of thing all the time.

A recommendation
Just had an excellent lunch today here
Peak Edge hotel luxury 4 star modern boutique hotel, in the Peak District, Derbyshire
Very easy approach to flat grass landing site behind the hotel with loads of room. Food in Bistro restaurant is excellent and staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Helicopters are very welcome.

Padstow
Hi all,
I'm sure the information I seek is in an old thread(?). However, I'm looking for somewhere to land my R44 as close to Padstow as possible - ideally within bag dragging distance. No probs if we need to get the Rock Ferry.
All help appreciated.

I stumbled across Helipaddy App the other day. Looks very good as the first attempt to provide a decent portfolio of UK sites. iOS and Android, plus it integrates with SkyDemon too :-)
