EASA UK CPL MEP SEP Renewal

Hey guys,
I was hoping someone here might have some idea. I converted my license from the FAA to the UK JAR and then to the EASA (present). On conversion, the EASA license does not have a separate SEP rating. My license just has the MEP and the IR.
Can a renewal of the SEP be done if the rating does not exist in the license? (I already have the MEP rating).

I assume you held one at some point? Have a look at the back of your licence and see if it is there.

If not then I'm sure you can still renew it. You would need to go to an ATO, do refresher training as required and then skill test.

The above can only be avoided if you currently hold the SEP on an ICAO licence. In which case you can just do the skill tests.

Would I be right in saying that your JAR did include SEP, but when the EASA licence was issued it failed to include it?

If this is the case, you need to point out the error, and get the page reissued.

Not common to be issued with errors.

@nick14 well, since i did the conversion from the FAA to the JAR, the conversion course entails just flying the multi engine to get the MEP and doing some instruments to get the Instrument rating. Most FAA to UK JAR conversion packages offer the same thing.

So when I applied to the UK CAA, my license just had the MEP rating and the IR with ME. I'm assuming the CAA expects that I have already flown single engine to get to multi engine.

The problem is I am doing the FI course in portugal and the school here wants me to renew my SEP rating and since my license does not show a stand alone SEP rating, I was confused.

@parkfell My JAR license does not show a SEP as well. which is very strange. I'm assuming the CAA expects me to have already flown the Single engine to get to the Multi engine. or maybe they expect me to exercise single engine privileges through my FAA license.

EASA licences will only contain valid ratings and certificates at the time of application therefore if your FAA licence only had MEP then that is all they will give you.

Yes you will have flown an SEP and in effect done the SEP content so all you would need to do is some refresher training as desired by the ATO and pass the skill test for SEP rating issue (skill test as the rating is not on your licence).

That's correct - since you've never held a SEP Class Rating on your EASA licence then it will be training as required and a SEP Class Rating Skill Test. It's not a full PPL Skill Test since you already hold a licence - the SEP Skill Test takes about an hour.

@nick14 That makes sense. Last question, if the ATO does not require any refresher training, I can still do the skill test right?
As in, when I submit all the paperwork to the UK, I will submit only the skill test report and details of my licenses etc. I'm hoping I dont have to provide details of additional training that I should undergo to get the rating. The C152 here is simple enough.

Refresher training

You definitely need to undergo the refresher training, since your original rating has been expired and does not show on your License. Any ATO will not let you use their aircraft for skills test without having a checkride with them first. Thisis just standard procedure for all ATOs just to make sure that you are safe to fly their aircraft. So that first flight of atleast one hour will easily judge your ability and for them to make decision whether you needmore training or you can go for skills test right after that flight.

Refresher training is determined by the Head of the Training at any ATO, and there are no minimum or maximum hours involved in it. If yu are good enough, the just after one flight, you can go for skills test. Otherwise you may need to do some more extra hours, before the ATO sign you off for skills test.

For CAA purpose, you will be needing a letter from the ATO confirming about your refresher training (regardless of the number of hours) along with skills test report from examiner.

@StOrMsCaTcHeR thanks for the info! I've got the picture now. instead of converting the damn SE from faa to easa, i can simply add the sep rating by doing a little refresher training and a skill test.
