"Trials of the new nose mounted optical sensor not only failed to realise any marked improvement over the pilot's Mk1 eyeball, but its positioning also proved a distraction to the pilot for taxiing and landing."

"Initial trials of a new type of simulated instrument flying equipment were halted today when it was found to cause memory loss in pilots. The fitting was designed to ensure that pilots did not sneak a look at the horizon. Unfortunately it became immediately obvious that 100% of pilots made no attempt to look at the instruments, forgot the flight briefing and the name of their wife".

Here we have one of the early steps in military flight training. This lesson helps decide whether the aspiring pilot should be Air Force or Navy.

seeing as the standard has already slipped...

The new Hawk II is the perfect training environment: All the avionics and weapons sytems you could possibly need to hone the skills of the next generation of fighter pilots. The designers have thought of everything for this revised airframe, when a grueling sortie is over, there's even somewhere to open a nice cold bottle of beer.

In early training days Onan had been given the nickname "The Clumsy" as a result of his fumbled, jerky stick handling. His instructor said "imagine you are making love to the sky when handling your craft". The spotty youth had found this impossible to do without a visual aid but had found Betty the blow up doll invaluable ever since.

Yes, it's time. It's up to LC to declare a winner; but LC hasn't posted anything on PPRuNe since 8th June. Maybe on det?
