Undoubtedly our management won't let an article like this spoil their next executive lunch (or bonus payments). In case they haven't noticed, Rome is burning.....

$13 Billion loss!!! It's not mentioned anywhere except when asked by the Press/TV!
$13 Billion!!LOSS! Directly attributable to a management mistake. And nobody is fired??
And we taxi around on one engine??

...spot on Arfur. It also might be worth noting that far smaller losses than this have put other airlines out of business. Nothing we can do as a Flt Ops dept could ever make up for such a gross mismanagement of capital. And as you said...where's the accountability? Our management is not fit for purpose. They are dinosaurs who's management style and attitudes are ill-suited for the modern airline industry. They are like alcoholics: the only ones who don't see the problem is themselves. They will drive this airline into the ground at an ever increasing rate. Not convinced? Just look at the mindless drivel they served up last week. It would be comical if it wasn't so tragic. I'm glad i'm nearing the end of the career. Couldn't imagine being in my 20's or 30's and seeing my career wasted by an unaccountable, incompetent and hostile group of managers such as we have in the Swires.

Even though reporters are now telling them exactly the same thing that we have for years . This management team will never take the necessary steps to alleviate the situation . Note I said alleviate because I am not sure that it can be fixed at this late stage .
The first major step that needs to be taken is to replace the entire management team with people who know what they are doing , because clearly this lot don't . They seem to be paralysed with fear to take the necessary steps to turn the Titanic around . we are still going full speed ahead despite them knowing that there are icebergs in the area. This press on regardless attitude had a very bad outcome for the Titanic.
At an absolute minimum the fuel hedging team should have been exposed and terminated on the spot . At least that would have indicated to the press that they were serious about turning the airline around, instead they make platitudes about building pillars .
We can see through it ,the press can see through it , and most importantly our passengers can see through it .
When is management going to see the dangers we face ? Tragically I fear not until the ice cold waves are lapping over the deck

Hedging Loss

To put that $13 Billion hedging loss in perspective it is roughly HK$430,000 per employee.
Stick that fact in with your four pillars.

Without foundations, pillars are just long round rocks.
And they have the hide to mention engagement. Standing by for APU use and RETI graphs, that will fix everything.

Four Pillars? WTF. Does that make the flight crew "Fifth Columnists?"

CORPORATE BULL**** SPEAK.

One Analyst summed it up very succinctly.

"805 words don't say what is ACTUALLY GOING ON and what they are ACTUALLY GOING TO DO."

Seems to me to be rearranging the deckchairs on the TITANIC.

The next step will be to go nuclear on employees benefits and wages, shrink the airline, direct entry everything, etc.

They don't care. If they did they would do something a lot more dramatic to solve the problems...are they doing that? No.

So - why is it that they just don't give a ****? When a company is allowed to go to ruin, there is a reason, it just has not been revealed yet.

Love the analogy of rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic...I guess we as a group are the band members that played on... Maybe it is time to be a rat...and win !

I would rack it up to incompetence, not an unrevealed master plan. They haven't had to make hard decisions since forever, and just don't know how to do a proper restructuring.

The Irony here is that the latin motto for swire is.."Esse Quam Videri"..to be not seem(to be)..small s intentional btw..which..is entirely appropriate since the emperor and these new clothes..(read the new pillars of wisdom..God help us all)..is entirely just the same..wool over head and business as usual until the whole business implodes. Those who wear these clothes are in dire need of a sacking ..a freakingly big and public sacking so the road show can establish some kudos and get back on track…but sadly..it won't be. Having seen AT dispatch at great speed yesterday from the CX HSBC…obviously with the speed to prevent a "..can you spare a mo….?'..and wearing a face that spells impending doom, I don't hold out much hope for a CX that we all know by the end of this year…" we seem to be wearing the same clothes…"..Esse Quam Vulgari???"

@AfurDent

why do u think I dont do RETI? until they show some actual intelligence whats my 20kg doing to the bottom line?....sweet f**k all.

Its like this fuel saving chart.....i put fuel on the aircraft cause Eagle doesnt know what my local experience is that says ignore PBE and PUT FUEL ON. Line Ops still doesnt get it right even after letters asking for more they dismiss, then 3 months later you see they add fuel....wow rocket science.

I still ended up the green band "surprise" that made me laugh. But what about the poor sap who draws the short straw and gets a slew of bad weather?

so once a year I may have the opportunity to present that I know the action of RETI drill to a Check.

We are the band on the titanic playing our role....full steam ahead to the iceberg.
