Facetime - can't or won't connect
OK, so I bought Mes Elpus and IPad mini 2 for her birthday last weekend and for the life of me I can't get her connected to use Facetime.
She has an icloud and Apple ID (which are the same by the way but there again, so are mine).
Every time we click the Facetime icon it already shows her e-mail address and asks for her Apple i/d password. We duly put that in and select Sign in. The rotating "I'm thinking about it" icon whirls round a bit and we end up with the Sign in button being shown again.
I am connected to a BT Home hub 4, we are wireless and I have wireless selected 'on' on the IPad.
Can any kind sole offer me some help. What little hair I have left is fast disappearing with this bloomin' problem.

Are you absolutely certain you are entering the correct password? Letter case matters with Apple IDs. I recall that Apple doesn't tell you you've entered the wrong password.
Try resetting the password at https://appleid.apple.com

Have tried this twice with the same results but will have another go and take real good notice about which case I use for it..

I've had similar hiccups with iThings. Check and recheck umpteen times, no joy.
Remove all traces of the account, restart the thing (the "full restart" rather than just a "power off" is more certain), enter the account details again ... and it works.

I had a similar issue with my updates via the App Store app always saying my Apple ID was not valid, yet I could login to the store via the browser.
The issue is caused by the very first boot when setup asks you to enter an Apple ID. Most people, including me, simple add garbage just to get past this screen so that we can quickly see our new toy in action.
Digging through the internet I found the fix in the most unlikely of places. Just change your Apple ID password as mentioned above and the problem magically goes away.

Apple, you should be royally ashamed of yourselves.
So I went home last night brimming with confidence that I had enough ammo to sort this problem out.......wrong! I spent the best part of three hours trying this and that and all I ended up achieving was giving myself a headache.
Today, I went back to Tesco's where I bought the item from and a very helpful tech guy looked at it, scratched his head and phoned Apple support.
After what appeared to be an age (it was 45 minutes) he put the phone on hold, turned to me and told me that it was a known Apple problem, there was nothing wrong with the IPad and that it was something to do with linking the unit to the servers at Apple. He told me Apple have known about this problem for ages and they haven't got much of an idea on how to cure it. He also said that it could be 24 hours or up to a month before anything got done about it.
Well, there it is. Apple are selling products which they know are not fit for purpose
(this is particularly applicable to me as I bought it so me and mine could talk whilst I was away from home).
I got my money back and will seriously consider whether to purchase another Apple product in the future.

Quit the Apple bashing. You quite obviously have no evidence to support your vast claims beyond your limited personal experience, which was further limited by what some man from Tesco told you.
There are millions of happy Facetime users out there, millions of happy Apple product users out there. As with most things in the world of IT (Apple or otherwise) there will always be edge-cases that are more difficult to fix.
Assuming your problem is an actual problem, then you may just be an edge case. Otherwise, as others have said, you may just have missed someting in your setup.

Same issue
I have the same issue - but only in the UK. (So far) The wifi speed at home to the ipad is 20 to 30 mbps, depending on range, so it isn't that.
it is also not the ipad, as it Farcetimed brilliantly on hols in Aus and NZ, when calling to both UK and USA.
SWMBO's given up on farcetime.
Whether the problem is Apple's, Cisco's or BT I don't know - there just is no current solution.

I don't know why you don't just use Skype instead?
Doesn't suprise me in the least that one of Apple's godawful online services doesn't work - this is the third try (.mac, MobileMe, and now iCloud).
(as usual, when Apple fail miserably, MS has to step in to do the job properly e.g. iWork (Office), iChat (MSN), etc.)
