So they send a few people on leave and the whole place can’t cope. So I assume this will be the norm every school hols.

Required Expertise - not at Airservices

There is an old joke along the lines that God and the Devil have a telephone hook up each week; this week it's God's turn to ring Nick...
G: "Hey Nick, how is it going down there?
D: "Actually God, its going great - we have an engineer down here - he's installed air conditioning and flush toilets..."
G: "Nick, you know the rules, you are not allowed engineers, send him up here."
D: "No God, we rather like what he is doing for us."
G: "Send him up here or I'll sue.
D: "And tell me God, where would you get a lawyer?"

Now with apologies to an old mate who is a lawyer and regularly posts on here - this is exactly what applies to Airservices.

Air (no) Services have the power to issue those huge and complex NOTAMS in this post but they simply do not have the expertise to understand, evaluate and quantify the risks and effects of their decisions.
Airservices is simply a service provider; its responsibilities are in the AirServices Act.
It no longer has highly experienced, current IFR heavy aircraft pilots on staff. It has no performance engineers.
And nor should it. They do not belong with a service provider.

In short, AsA promulgates these changes without having the in house expertise to understand the safety consequences for aircraft operating in all manner of weather conditions in IMC and without ATC separation services.
By what imaginary expertise do they carry out a safety case covering their actions?

I suggest Australia return to the integrated FAA model where both regulation and service provision are in the one organisation with one CEO and one responsible Minister.
The currrent system is broken.
CASA apparently knows this but what can it do?
Take AsA to court as it would a pilot? That would help!!
Suspend or Cancel AsA's operating licences? I am not sure that would get much political or public support!

In short: we have a wholly imaginary safety system. It is broke and it needs fixing.... NOW would be good.

The Board and Executive of AsA should be summarily sacked for doing it…

The Board and Executive of CASA should be summarily sacked for allowing it…
Noble suggestion, but they would no doubt walk away with a substantial severance package and the problem would continue. If they were imprisoned (or threatened with it) things might change.

Yep, and those few people actually go on holiday, travel interstate, overseas or go on a cruise to spent time with their family and friends.

Reading about all the crapshoot, looks like flying in from the north it’s just about at the level where it is -

All stations Australia XYZ crossing the FIR into Straya, ETA Melbourne on the hour………………..

Yes tongue in cheek but if you aren’t flying into Straya often this is starting to get confusing!

It might fix it in future but doesn't address the problem in the short term as it will take a little more than the stroke of a pen to make the required changes.

And make sure you pay attention to the NOTAM requirements if you're operating in the underlying Class G airspace - some NOTAMs require you contact BN/ML CTR if you're operating planning on operatingIFR in G. Others require you to contact CTR if you're planning to operate in G irrespective of flight category.

PILOTS/OPERATORS CONSIDERING OPR IN CLASS G SHALL CTC MELBOURNE CENTRE TEL: (PLUS) 61 3 9235 7455 FOR FURTHER INFO.

LOL....
I haven't had a look at pPrune for about 6 months...I just couldn't contain myself when I read a post about the distribution of 20 staff that might operate a roster.

Long Service Leave......bwhahahahahaha, surely you jest, absolutely no chance of LSL dont even utter the words.

Go to your Line Leader like Oliver Twist, please sir/maam....may I have some....Long over due Long Service Leave, I've only been here for 30+ years and would really appreciate being somewhere else while you sort this $&!+fight out.

Negative, Longtermatc with no career and no future... you need to be Airserviced with the rest of the staff no Long Service Leave for you!

But seriously, if the executive at ASA are not held responsible for this mess I hate to think where it ends.

At my unit, there were 2 of us when there would normally be 5 managing the busy morning peak a little while ago...its disgraceful.

Pretty sure a company cannot deny you LSL. They can negotiate with you to take a portion of your LSL, but if you want to take the lot, they cannot deny your request. AL, certainly, but not LSL. At least, that's the case for us in WA.
Granting and taking of long service leave
An employer cannot direct an employee who is covered by the Long Service Leave Act to take long service leave at a particular time.
Long service leave must be granted and taken as soon as reasonably practicable after it becomes due.
The employee and the employer may agree when the employee will take long service leave.
Where an employer and employee have not agreed on when the employee is to take leave, the employer cannot refuse the employee taking any period of leave to which they became entitled more than 12 months before. This leave can be taken at any time that is suitable to the employee. The employee must, however, give the employer at least 2 weeks’ notice of the period during which they intend taking leave.
