Well, I had a friend who did a course there about a year ago but I think he was trained in the facility at Sanford, Florida. He said the planes are not well maintained and too many students and not enough equipment. Maybe you should drive down and visit before putting your money down. As I have said, its been a year ago, maybe they have changed.

It's looking good at Comair right now.The School is bought by Delta.Delta will do a couple changes after Jan.2000.
The Maintenance changed too.Enough planes in the Moment.
It will be the Delta Air Lines flight academy soon.After Instructing,there is no pay for training anymore.

I am interested in any comments on Commair. I am considering their new hire pilot training program. I have 1500 hours, 250 multi and my ATP. I am married, so the days of 'will do anything to fly" are over. However I am not lazy and still love flying.

Thank you all very much for your responses. I in fact visited Comair academy last August, in Sandford, right outside Orlando. The facilities were great - a huge fleet, great flight planning areas and sophisticated weather briefing. I was thouroughly impressed and am looking forward to the changes upcoming.
However, be warned about a few things. They mention in their ads that 97% of their graduates get jobs at the airline. Basically, after you complete your training they may hire you as a flight instructor at the academy; the hire rate for this is not nearly as high. The 97% comes from the people who have already built hours as Comair flight instructors. It is them who get the 97% rate. So if you make it past the first stage of getting hired as an instructor, you're in, but this first stage is the killer.
Anyway, I hope this sheds light on the subject.

Some more inside news...
They really need instructors in the moment.
They start hiring for comair now with 800/250 hrs.For guys who did instructing there,is no pay for training anymore.For pilots from outside-i dunno.
Not all of the instructors get hired.Ed C.looks at your work as CFI,if he recommends you for the airline (they come and ask),you are in there.
The brasilias are getting retired slowly.The want to have an all CRJ fleet now.The 120's are then used at MCO to fly down to KeyWest.
For the ALQC,they request the IFR-gleim again,an Interview,Aptitude test and a Sim flight.The whole Interview process is mostly done in Sanford.They give you the Frasca Multisim and load a Kingair on it.SID's,STAR's,Approach and some Emergencys.
All is very orientated on Comair's Flight Stands.

P.S Comair does not support any Visas or Greencards in the Moment!They wont hire you,without a working permit.

It's unfortunate that they don't hire Int'l students. They will however, give you a student visa during your training.
Personally, I am lucky to be able to have an american SIN number, being a status indian (polically correct: native american)...it's not bad for affirmative action, either! I don't know of too many native airline pilots....
