One year after a Southwest Airlines plane skidded off the end of a snowy runway, killing a child in a car on Central Avenue, Midway Airport officials say a crushable concrete safety zone is in place to guard against a recurrence.

The fact that Midway is more prepared today for an airplane crash than it has ever been is especially welcome news, as thousands of airline passengers return home Sunday on the busiest travel day of the year.
