Runway buffer lands at Midway
A year after a jetliner skidded into a street and killed a boy in a car, a safety zone is in place to prevent another tragedy.
By Jon Hilkevitch Tribune transportation reporter Published November 26, 2006 One year after a Southwest Airlines plane skidded off the end of a snowy runway, killing a child in a car on Central Avenue, Midway Airport officials say a crushable concrete safety zone is in place to guard against a recurrence.
