Yes, we definately ALL need to remain members of BALPA, if not get MORE to join up! Leaving now will only have a detrimental effect on our cause. We can decide what to do with put memberships once armed the knowledge of the final settlement.
What is getting to me is the length of time, how much this whole thing is dragging out! A combination of the company, BALPA and red tape I guess?! So... WHAT NOW??? COME ON! DO SOMETHING!!! Ballot? Talk? Negotiate? Demand? Walk out? Work-to-rule? Aaargh! |

there is definately an elite group making a lot of money from a lot of unhappy, tired , disillusioned workforce. I am totally confused that so many 'clever' people do not understand the people that are making them a lot of money have had enough .....completely confuses me !!!!!!

Do you think Bob Crowe or Tony Woodley would have put up with all this c..p from Frenchy. Stick to your guns on this one cos you've come too far now and have to see it through but when it's sorted, resign from BALPA en masse and save yourselves some dosh, all join the RMT or something, vote them in as your collective baragainer and then get down to business and see how real unions work. BALPA's nothing more than an ever so nice talking shop cos the pilots they represent are too nice when it comes to negotiating. |
I don't expect the same salary as British Airways, but here is what BALPA can do at other companies, at 2% my 4 years salary would increase by £600!!
Starter pay is now £49,085 for new FOs, long or shorthaul. It will go up by 1900 each year shorthaul / 2600 longhaul. For example if you've done 5 years, FO basic has risen to £58633 shorthaul, £62266 longhaul. To this you can add allowances - something between 12-15k shorthaul depending on how many nightstops you do. |
People should try not to get so emotive about this, pay negotiations are like buying a car, the company offers their best deal we say no and so on until an acceptable position is reached. That's why we should vote no, I don't think we're anything close to the companies best deal, after all the directors got a very large rise, and they've ordered these aircraft, there's clearly money in the pot. In addition we're very low paid relative to other major players, and let's face it we are a major player who is highly likely to become a mostly jet operator in the next few years.
At the end of day we have to fight for the best deal for us just as the directors will fight for the shareholders. Ps I'm left seat. |
Whichever way you look at it a pay increase below inflation is unacceptable, even with the smoke and mirrors used by the company. My no is in todays post.

Afterglow.............don't get so emotive that with respect is the most uninlightened statement i've heard . Our terms and conditions and pay not only effect us and sets a precidence but it effects our families , and the way we live . I honestly believe if the company genuinely could not afford it , we would all be behind them but this like everything in life these days is down to money. Earning millions is not good enough ,they are prepared to not care about us so they can earn millions plus a "little bit more"

No from me too. RPI already 4.5%, forecast to rise above 5% in the very near future. When will people get it that any pay "increase" less than this is a pay cut.
Read the notes on the pay summary and see that even when we are offered RPI +0.5% it is capped at 4.5%. They want us all to sign up to a pay cut until 2013. The company is doing well enough to warrant large bonuses all around at the top, and all they are prepared to give us is a pay cut and a couple of hours off extra at the weekend. No thanks. |
The Flybe share price is really getting hit recently.
Currently trading at around 250 - Down 15% over a week. This is not on the back of any real news, looks to me like the market is starting to price in industrial unrest... |
or the high price of fuel - how well are Flybe hedged for the summer?
