Someone has to cheerlead Ryanair
The real mystery though is where's Leo?

G-SPOTs Lost 5th November 2009 21:43

No. My point for any wannabees watching this is that as I and others have said there is an alternative to the huge loan and buy a job approach and if you follow that alternative, exercise some patience, ingenuity, wit and win some luck there are more rewarding areas of aviation than being locked in the front of a low-cost aluminium tube and pedalling like a bloody hamster for the rest of your career, such as it will be by the time the buy-a-job brigade have finished whipping the rug out from under everyone.
A nice sentiment Flinty but I'd rather slam my d1ck in the door than have one of these 737RHS or bust chaps sat next to me by the pool for a protracted period. Best let the right ones figure it out for themselves than using GA seats as a second best stopping off point whilst they wait for their 5 year commands somewhere else.

A lot of them wouldn't apply anyway - thats not the reason why they went to flight school

I'm pretty sure that Slim Shady is just another account belonging to that banker MOL / Leo Leary Camel. He's definitely not a pilot.

zerotohero 6th November 2009 01:06

OK

"Pay for CV, interview, sim check.
Pay for TR.
Pay for uniform.
Pay own hotel on training.
No meals.
No water.
No job security.
Dubious tax practices.
Forced to use 'company' accountants."

ALSO

Stable roster
Good Pay
lots of bases to choose from (hopefully get one you want, I did)
New aircraft (yea I said it! shiny jets, at least they work and are safe)
plenty of time off
Pleanty of hours
No cold water but as much hot water as you can drink! hehe
Out of base pay to cover hotels which is nice as you get to travel a little on there $$$, makes for a nice change now and then
Jumpseat travel back home if you dont get based where you want and 900 routes to make sure you can get there
Fast Commands
and all the cute 20year old girls you can cope with.

peterinmadrid 6th November 2009 01:42

Oh jeez you guys crack me up: 12 customers out of 62 million.

Go pay easy prices.

Go pay baby prices.

Flintstone, living in the stone age: passed over by airline after airline so takes a job kissing ass, humping bags and serving food and drinks.

So sad.

Did Ryanair turn you down because you couldn't pass the sim?

I'll pass your comments about tax free per diems and your food to HMRC: they can find out who you are and who you work for and when you are in UK airspace.

And just for good measure your passengers can pay punitive tax on their charter: you approve of level playing fields, don't you.

MOL's repulsive personality is all over this post: contempt for pilots, customers and the superior service of other airlines, followed by childish insults and idle threats.

Maybe Leo has disappeared because just mixing up the letters of his own name was a bit too obvious. But he's still lurking on this site because obviously any talk of fighting back frightens him.

I wish you all good luck improving your conditions at Ryanair. And MOL - you can make all the threats you like, I'd rather work at McDonalds than work for you! They treat their staff with more respect.

Small details like food and uniforms might not be a deciding factor when taking a job, but it is things like these that make the difference between a good working atmosphere and a rotten one. Other companies provide these things because they value their employees.

So much for the big aircraft order. Of course it's boeing's fault for not "playing their part" in your cost-cutting plan, isn't it? Not that you were wrong about how many you could really afford.

tocamak 6th November 2009 07:52

I'd rather work at McDonalds than work for you!
These sort of comments sound so ridiculous that they just devalue any argument they are supposed to back up. Would you really rather work for the minimum wage flipping burgers all day instead of flying on a very modern fleet earning what those at McDonalds would regard as rather a good amount of money? I am no fan of the new reality of life which regretfully is here to stay nor a supporter of MOL (LEO/Slim) but a pilot faced with the choice of :-

a) Unemployment
b) Burgers
c) Ryanair

would need some cunning plan to reject c) in favour of one of the others.

Tailwind

Zero to hero,

Sorry for the delay in answering your question, but from memory the tailwind was 14kts about 10-20 degrees off axis.

Also to say it's good to hear from the exec-jet boys, your posts have given me a little more hope for this industry and I hope to join you for a crayfish salad at FL350 one day!

I must be doing something wrong, let me see.
I have a stable roster
Plenty of time off
Free uniform
Free Water, coffee, coke etc
Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Good pay, well we are off shore,
Free flights on company routes
Aircraft B737-800W's as new as the stuff the Irish lads have
Fully working MCP, FMC ACARS, all the bells and whistles, but would be nice to have the HUD:D
Free uniform,
Hotels always paid, with an allowance,
Living Allowance for being away from home.
And I don't have to work for Ryanair.
Great.:ok:

ford cortina 6th November 2009 08:33

Desk Pilot, the tailwind you refer to is about 13Kts, according to my companys T/O Planner on my Laptop, forgot to add that.:ok:
So it could be out of limits, the 737 is 10Kt Tail wind limited, some are 15kt, either way bit to close for comfort.

ZTH. I don't think you realise just how telling your response is. I listed some of the bad points about RYR and instead of refuting or try to justify them what you did (to paraphrase) was say that all that bad stuff is okay because there are (in your opinion) some good bits. So it's alright to be treated like !!!!! because you 'might' get a base or a jumpseat (which other airlines have been doing since Orville and Wright)?

Christ man, can you not see what you're saying? It's like a battered wife, "Yeah, he hits me but he does bring me flowers sometimes". Ever heard of Stockholm Syndrome? MOL and his boys have got you right where they want you and the sad part is you seem to like it.

Unbelievable.

Quality Time 6th November 2009 09:40

Living Allowance for being away from home.
And I don't have to work for Ryanair.
That's the reason many people choose to work for Ryanair, they don't want to be away from home.

As for all the corporate willy-waving - I tried it and although it has some nice perks occasionally, I think you have to be choosy/lucky to get one of the better jobs. The cockpit discipline I saw was embarrassing.

I don't think you hear too many corporate guys squealing when the boss says he's buying a Boeing BBJ2 which is effectively what Ryanair fly.

As for fancy gadgets - I think all 737-800NG's have FMC's and unlike my corporate experience the pilots are trained how to use them.

Ryanair pilots are not a bunch of aliens who arrived to fly exclusively for MOL - they are you and me! Many of them are very experienced pilots who have been around the block enough times to know that 90% of the ignorant comments directed at them are from people who haven't yet experienced real aviation events or the older guys who have been lucky enough to stay with one company for a while.

Well hang in there a while guys and many of you will be able to see if your anti - Ryanair rants can pass the above tocomac test in reality. Or maybe as I suspect the vast majority are all mouth?

Bruce Wayne 6th November 2009 09:44

So since we have a bunch of sage posters declaring Ryanair pilots are doing fine, I'd like to ask how does one who is not type rated 737 capt join the Ryanair as FR stopped recruiting F/Os a while ago.

No, I'm not asking how to join Brookfield, I'm asking about Ryanair.

Let me spell it out: R-Y-A-N-A-I-R.

bia botal 6th November 2009 10:12

I'd like to ask how does one who is not type rated 737 capt join the Ryanair as FR stopped recruiting F/Os a while ago.
What one has to do with the other i am sure i don't know but it's simple really.

They are at the moment hiring "type rated captains", " low time, non type rated CPL"

If you have 25000 hrs command but not on a 737 then they dont want you, if you have 2000 hrs 737 fo, they dont want you.

Oh and the whole brookfield ryanair thing, no choice there old chap. you would get brookfield....................b.r.o.o.k.f.i.e.l.d........... ......

WWW:
"You've the best roster in the business? It stinks compared to easyJets 5453.

Nice people? Are you on drugs?"

How does 5453 possibly beat 5/4?
While we're about it, perhaps you could block Flintstone as well? He's just as tedious as the other one...
So tell us, what's objectionable about the suggestion that there are nice people at FR?

fastidious bob 6th November 2009 12:06

Easy,
5 days off, 4 days on, 5 days off, 3 days on:}

captplaystation 6th November 2009 14:35

Er ? I doubt it, but I stand to be corrected . . yep, couldn't see how 5/4 5/3 was better than 5/4 either ? of course in RYR it depends on the base of course, the newer "med" bases are 5/3 summer 5/4 winter AFAIK.
