GB Announcement 1st March (Crew thread)

Does any flightcrew out their who work for GB know what the announcement is about on 1st March ?

aspaceman 10th February 2007 14:22

Yip
GB will take over the BA operations at LGW. They will be the BA presence there. BA LGW will transfer to GB airways as Bacon did to flybe.
Wait and see!

Evel Knievel 10th February 2007 14:38

Mind sharing your info source spaceman?? There are more rumours and theories flying around Gb at the moment than you'd care to mention

pushapproved 10th February 2007 15:24

Don't take the bait!! If what aspaceman is saying were true there would surely be rumours and an announcement at BA LGW on 1 March as well! :}

Evel Knievel 10th February 2007 15:51

Furry Muff push approved. Somethin's a brewin' thoug' eh!! Just curious! Arn't you??

pushapproved 10th February 2007 15:54

Always curious and I'm sure everybody loves a good rumour!! :E

cirrus01 10th February 2007 16:27

Actually the truth is that GB are to take over all BA operations at LHR...........:D :D :D
and that the efficient, cost effective better managed operation at Gatwick will be the NEW BA.:)
Seriously , though have GB got any spare capacity ???

aspaceman 10th February 2007 16:42

Actually the truth is that GB are to take over all BA operations at LHR...........:D :D :D

No just LGW.

All the spare capacity will come from BA at LGW. This is in order to help Willie get ready for 5. BA still need a presence in LGW but this will be provided by a somewhat large GB franchise.

It is definately not 'bait' - wait and see.

Remember Willie has stated thta all elements of the new BA are to turn a profit.

Look how and what he has done to BA Connect and the 1900 (yes - 1900) employees there who are being forced to change their T&C's or seek employment elsewhere.

BA LGW - you were warned - you are next! :=

Jambo Buana 10th February 2007 17:01

Does it cost BA more money with the GB deal than it would to operate the flights themselves? I cant imagine it is cheaper to wet lease, therefore I predict that Willie will be looking to axe the arrangement and get his own guys to do the work and lose the middleman. Actually i dont know what the deal is between BA and GB but you can bet your bottom dollar that the contract is up for review!

flyer55 10th February 2007 17:02

Well if that is the case then the crew and pilots will not allow it and we will make a point of that ! If it is going to be anything gb will either go their own way or the will come into the gatwick fleet !

Gatwick Fleet ( mainline fleet ) to be come a franchise think again !

The Scarlet Pimpernel 10th February 2007 17:12

"Will not allow it"

On what terms.....any??

newbagr 10th February 2007 18:46

guys relax......gatwick fleet recruits new entrants.....i ve heard the rumour that all shorthaul operation will be handed to GB which i think is pretty hard to believe.... but even worse now....gatwick to become a whole franchise....thats a joke:-) i am sure willie would not give the base a second chance if it wasnt making profit and everyone be sure about it that he wont hesitate to close us down if he thinks we got no chance.....but i dont know what would happen to us the staff at LGW.... the possibility of GB merging with gatwick fleet seems more possible specially now they are moving into JH on the 1st of March strangely

Railgun 10th February 2007 19:10

To quote BB of BA "once we have finished in the regions Gatwick is next"

hapzim 10th February 2007 19:21

May just have a slight Orange tint to this announcement.:suspect:

aspaceman 10th February 2007 19:30

"Well if that is the case then the crew and pilots will not allow it and we will make a point of that ! If it is going to be anything gb will either go their own way or the will come into the gatwick fleet !"

Look flyer

Think BACON !!

How will you make a point of it?

You will be sold to GB - not a merging, not GB joining the fold - but BA Shorthaul Gatwick leaving the BA Group to become a franchise with GB's palm being crossed with silver.
Willie doesent want you - he wants rid of you, you cost to much and he will pay GB to take you off his hands. Yes - the untouchable mainline is about to be BACONed. It will be another share transfer so that you do not get TUPE and GB will then shred the pay, allowances and leave etc just as has been done with BACON. There will be no transfer to the mothership at fortress LHR because once the deal is announced GB will own you and your fate is sealed/BACONED
I say again
Wait and see! :=

apaddyinuk 10th February 2007 19:40

As much as it would not surprise me if this was true, I find it a little hard to believe at a time when BA have just reopened recruitment for SFG and when GB have absolutely no experience of operating such a huge operation that even LGW is with a mix of both longhaul and shorthaul. Also, BA have just gone through all that hassle of creating SFG that to suddently chuck it just a month after it is finalised seems madness, even for Willie!!!

phantom menace 10th February 2007 19:41

Announcement now 1st April

There's no way the private owners of GB would take the risk...They were offered the old AML contract years ago...golden opportunity let slip.

aspaceman 10th February 2007 19:50

"Also, BA have just gone through all that hassle of creating SFG that to suddently chuck it just a month after it is finalised seems madness"

BACON was only a few moths old before...........

Recruitment continues because aircraft will still need to be flown trough and after the transition phase.

Longhaul not part of the deal - Operated by LHR based crew with existing crew transferred to LHR

Also, like BACON, pension of remaining LGW crew to be frozen and deferred helping to solve the pension problem

HZ123 10th February 2007 20:01

A month to Warerside is like a day in politics. However, cuts will still need to be made by BA LGW to maximise profits so it is not out of the question that other routes could certainly be passed to GB. As for the agreements the latest round of management versus unions will have to be paid for by some of us. More likely that the ramp handling operation at LGW will be outed as the first wave of changes.

aspaceman 10th February 2007 20:11

The rampers will transfer to GB with the rest and will have the longhaul handling contract at LGW

newbagr 10th February 2007 20:38

excuse....maybe this is too complicated for me! but how did u get this info?:-))) we ll be sold to GB and what will happen to the existing 1400 crew of LGW SF? they will stay with GB? or 1400 crew will transfer to LHR? both of those scenarios seem like fiction!

pips 10th February 2007 20:42

i dont think so ,is this announcment like bmed big announcement
and look what happend to them.

GB HOW YOU DREAM

Thumperdown 10th February 2007 20:47

Sounds like a repeat of what has happened to us up north. Nobody could ever have believed we would have been sold off to flybe.
Good luck

newbagr 10th February 2007 21:01

guys hold on a sec...baconnect was a franchise..... Gatwick fleet isnt! it is mainline and now on the NSP!!!those rumours could not possibly be true!

Thumperdown 10th February 2007 21:09

Newbagr
I beg to differ sir - BA Connect was NOT a franchise it was a wholy owned subsiduary which is completely different. We were owned by BA (when BA bought BRAL and merged it with Brymon to form BA Citiexpress which was relaunched as BA Connect 5 months before being sold). Had it been a franchise then it could not have been sold off. Not that we felt dumped with no support south of the Watford ........ Obviously your comment about it being a franchise shows ......... I can assure you being 'willied' is not pleasant.

aspaceman 10th February 2007 21:14

Thumperdown you are correct. BACON was an owned subsiduary.
Newbagr there is many a leak at waterworld.

yachtno1 10th February 2007 21:20

Roll on the 1st of March then spaceman !;)

newbagr 10th February 2007 21:43

sorry space man but all lgw staff r in nsp and cant be transferred to another employee... as we are now in the nsp those rumours are just rumours

Flightrider 10th February 2007 21:47

Route swap with BA.

Longer BA Gatwick routes like Izmir, Reykjavik, Varna etc will become GB operations. A320s are much more efficient on these sectors, particularly as BA's 737-400s are payload limited on the return ADB-LGW sectors etc and have limitations on payload on KEF due to diversion alternates.

In return, short GB routes like Nantes and Montpellier will move to BA in return. BA can also use 737-500s on these routes to grow flight frequency and maintain year-round service which is not viable with the A320.

One set of LHR slots to be sold to BA. Double-daily Malaga and single Casablanca to be maintained, the daily LHR/Faro will disappear and be replaced with an extra frequency ex LGW.

newbagr 10th February 2007 22:00

this is more like what it will be announced on the 1st:-)))not quite as dramatic as some have it!

Railgun 10th February 2007 22:23

Does anyone know if BA have reniewed the lease on the LGW 737's?

sonypc100 10th February 2007 22:39

aspaceman are you just spouting nonsense as your bitter about BACON at BHX?

Maz11 10th February 2007 23:44

Don't forget BA LGW that as long as they give you your notice they can make you redundent, your not untouchable, no one is!!

Not that i've heard rumours to this effect, just from prior experience, and I wouldn't put anything past WW. Just like Lingus, if he wants rid, he'll get rid!!

Connect were told they'd have 2 years to turn themselves around, oh and what a suprise, they got nowhere near that. Just shows how nothing can be taken at face value.

sonypc100 11th February 2007 01:54

of course maz, but that applies equally to anyone in any job. he could make all lhr ww csd positions redundant tomorrow!

however the fact that there is a recruitment campaign for lgw tells you that there are no redundancies on the horizon

sony portable 11th February 2007 08:23

This thread is full of deluded GB pilots hanging on . There has not been one shred of evidence to back up any claims of an announcement of any kind at BA or I am told at GB .

We can all be made redundant Maz11 but it is however illegal to make somebody redundant in order to give their job to someone else.

March the first will come and go , BA will still be doing the same thing , GB will may not remain a franchise , maybe FlyBe will help you boys out though !

I think posts from people like 'MAZ11' and 'MEMPHIS' are detrimental to PPrune , just off the cuff remarks from people who obviously know very little !

:=

Rumours everywhere 11th February 2007 08:35

This thread is full of deluded GB pilots hanging on

Really... I don't think so...

Yet another example of a self-elevated individual who thinks he is completely untouchable as he is employed by BA. Well... hate to tell you this, but it's time to start smelling the coffee!

Also, for your information, in case you logged into the wrong site... this is the Professional Pilots RUMOUR Network... it is all about RUMOUR... and that is why people are posting RUMOURS.

Human Factor 11th February 2007 09:07

Had to laugh at some of the above. BA are pulling the 737s off NCL and one GLA rotation for the summer season to pick up some of the GB routes to Spain (and NQY, but that's another story).

Bad Robot 11th February 2007 10:37

Please excuse my ignorance, but what is SFG & NSP ?

BR.

The Controlller 11th February 2007 10:53

Gb/ba Lgw

Am I alone in thinking that less and less people involved with the airline are now trying to influence PPrune := I think we should continue to discuss what is important NOT c**p

merlinxx 11th February 2007 11:41

GB/BA

Well said Controller, just food for the snide journos out there. I thought P/O Prune was a recipient of the famed "Rigid Digit"! Maybe it should be re-instated?
