If you can't find a job, it's fine to start here. These times, you should be able to find something better than this. I totally agree that if you have the numbers to move from place to place without risks it's always worth a try. Do not forget one of the cardinal rule of aviation that applies perfectly to life: "Hope for the best, plan for the worse....". Tyrolean's bugs won't kill you. Wasting time to wait for the perfect world will. And slowly...! Nothing personal folks. Just sick of people moarning from a position that many dream about... PZ :ok: |
Plenty of Dutch work(ed) there. No experts in the German language either..
Just give it a shot. |
On that note then, anyone care to post what the pay is for a starting FO?
Aussie |
Why do you want to know what the pay is? Australians will work for nothing even when they are unwelcome, in any country.
|
Aussie, as a starting FO you make about 25.000 € net the first year, so thank god beer prices are acceptable in Austria.
The reason why so many people are leaving is mostly because Tyrolean has heired lots of foreigners and they want to go home now that they have the hours and the market is opening up. The others who are leaving are looking for bigger aircraft and more pay, Cathay etc. Not mentioning those leaving for NetJets of course :) Tyrolean is not a bad company work. i don't think you'll find many companies this size were people are not complaining about the management. The people you work with on a daily basis however are generally really nice and great to work with. As lowtimer, it's a good place to start and gather experience. |
Thanks for the reply guys.
Its an option for a start! Aussie |
Anyone know if theres any progression onto the mainline operations?
Aussie |
Aussie, at the moment that's a no-go. But things are happening, so who knows.
For the time being, the fact that there is no organized way of progressing to Austrian means that lots of people leave because of a lack of career prospects. |

Aussie 2nd year net: 26.500€ 3rd/4th year net: 29.747€ 1st year pay is for first 365days, 2nd year starts on day 366, thereafter you'll get a raise every second January 1st. (So if you start before the end of the year you'll be in year 3/4 on Jan 1st, 2008.) Expect more net if you didn't work continuously before being employed as the tax is calculated annually and you'll get a refund for the months you didn't work. Can't comment on the selection. The fee is possibly a thing of supply and demand. (When it was introduced there weren't that many others hiring.) As for the "outsider" thing: you'll stay an outsider if you don't learn German at all. All other attempts to speak our local variety of German are welcome, regardless of nationality (heck, we even hire Germans ;)) |
Thanks for the info mate.
Check your pms! Aussie |
Tyrolean is going to add up to 7 Fokkers to the fleet. Plus all the pilots leaving the company have to be replaced. Let´s see whether they can maintain this selection fee.
|
Tyrolean ain´t that bad - the workinginvironment is nice with a low percentage of smartarses... Be prepared to live in a small austrian town like Graz and klagenfurt (more a place for Steve Irwin than for a pilot) on a 60% contract. If i´d known i´d still applied. Probably gonna change though. Good luck..

Which is why . . .
after 37 years of aviation 'man and boy' - 'military and civil' I have advised my own son to become a dentist or a lawyer. Why ? . . . . . . because even as a Captain . . . . .
[QUOTE The pay is crappy, and management treats you like !!!!!. There is hardly any respect for pilots in this company.[/QUOTE] . . . whilst a reasonable dentist can make around £100,000 to £150,000 per annum and a lawyer? Well he can make as much as he can squeeze out of his rich clients :ugh: no contest! |
64% contracts are for new-hires only and "snap up" to 80% after the first year, 100% is automatically granted when sufficient pilot demand is there (i.e. more copilots are hired).
GRZ/KLU is for DH8 only and usually temporary as well. VIE is available to all Fokker new-hires and those assigned to GRZ/KLU usually get VIE within a year. It won't be 7 fokkers but 4-6. |
Does anybody have information about the selection?

If you come without airline experience, you'll have to do an IFR checkride on a FTD and a CPL/ATP written knowledge test. Everyone is run through a psychological test including various computerized testing and AFAIK an interview. If you don't drop out during these two you'll be interviewed by a selection panel. They used to send you to an AME but I am not sure if this is still done if you have a JAR-FCL license and medical. |
I thought there were age discrimination laws out now, if their is I was told I was too old!!
thank you for your application and your interest in our company. I'm sorry, but I have to tell you, that one of our requirement (to be invited to a Tyrolean selection) is - not to be older than 35 years and 364 days After checking your application I'll found out that you don't meet this requirement. Because of this fact I can't take your application in consideration. Kind regards Nicole |
Are they allowed to do that?
I think if it states that in the Min Requirements, they can get away with it.... Aussie |
