Sorry to hear that the pfo letters are out, as you say, there is always next year. I still have not heard. :ugh: and I thought my maths was awful so it will not be long, my inbox is probably full!
|
I would like to know if anyone has any insight into the recruitment process. I too thought I did really well at the math, I had 2 questions left and am sure I answered most of them correctly. The verbal is harder to assess. We didn't do group exercises. Do you believe that they look into the psycho to determine whether we are fit or not and base a decision on it before stage 2? We were told that they use it during stage 2 for an interview with the psychic, sorry, the psychologist but still, I wonder. Any inkling much appreciated. Life goes on at TFly, without me.....:{
|
I did pants on the maths but I got through and passed day 2 but now its all gone quiet, rumour has it that they may be holding back on recruiting now for a while, which sounds strange when they are still putting people in the sim
|
Stage 1 20th July, (notified Friday) stage 2 very soon, and then who knows :}
|
Now new Euro legislation has come in to stop age-ism, they have stopped command courses for existing FOs but have probably used it as an excuse to stop new entries. Now captains can stay on beyond 60 (to 65) so there are a load of 61 year olds planning to move back into the left seat.
Might be the reasoning? If so, bad news for future roster-fodder.:* |
Had the good news the other day,
was going for the 22nd for the sim assessment, but that day is full so hopefully going either on the 23rd or the 24th August.:ok: M. |
"Have used it as an excuse to stop new entries"
No excuse needed. No DEC if suitable candidates exist within. Full stop. Why do we need to offer any excuse to anybody? |
All the dates are full ! bugger, got to wait again, and I sat phase one on the 5th ! Oh well.
|
Anyone else heard that they're not looking at processing anyone any further at this stage? My sources tell me they're pretty much full and no more job offers are imminent - anyone else?
|
Had stage two on Thursday. They are now recruiting for a holding pool with courses on 737/757 hopefully around november time - they said 737 would be more likely.
|
has anybody asked for and been successful getting feedback from satge 1? I have sent an email and called once but no luck so far. I know the HR team is small and doesn't have time, just hoping they don't throw away all our paperwork in the meantime...
|
FBOZH,
I share your confusion. I was there on the 5th July and did not receive my results until very recently, contrary to the 7 or 8 days as promised. I didn't get through yet I have a background in teaching these kind of tests and found the assessments a none event (although you never know for sure). I have friends who blundered their way through the same tests and are now working for this company. I know I did well yet I didn't reach the required grade. I could be entirely wrong but something fishy has gone on in HR or they have not been honest regarding the reason for the knock back. Thomson fly, I respectfully suggest you have a little look at HR recruiters. |
Thomson-Cook,
I feel a little sorry for those you refer to as friends, I'm sure their performance was up to scratch. I can't help but think that in fact your performance on the tests was not to the required standard. I really looks as simple as that. If you found them a breeze and yet those who got through found them taxing then maybe you are just not doing it right. As for feed back, whilst it is important for assessments like sims and interviews these are just standard tests that can be found on the internet (search tfly and ba threads for links). Why not just do those online tests or buy a book and see your own 'feedback'. Just a suggestion. |
Could it be that you were very good at the maths and English part of the test, but the personality profile showed you as an odd ball?
How would that fit in if that was the case. You can add up and write a good letter but you are a nightmare to be sat next to for 10 hours ??? I worked very hard for the 2 weeks on the maths which got me through that part. The English I thought was a nightmare but still did my best. The personality profile, I was just as honest as can be. Yes, I did my best and did not find the assessments a none event as you say. I sat at Luton before my stage 1, listening to everyone talking about who they already fly for etc etc etc etc. I just kept quite and got on with it. Thomson Fly, thank you soooooo much for giving me the chance. I know a guy who has a 737 rating and about 1000 hours on type. He failed stage 1. What does that say. Is it the rated guys they are looking for regardless of personality and the amount of preparation for the maths and English they have done or is it the correct personality and someone who prepares for the event they are looking for. And I passed, I am sooooo pleased to of passed stage 1. Cannot believe it. Just waiting to be called for stage 2 and preparing to get that right on the day. Lots of practice currently being done in my friends home built 757 static sim in his garage and a couple of hours will be spent in the real thing before the big day. http://www.boeingsimulator.com/ Do I want this job, believe me I do. Preparation, preparation, preparation. That is the key. Sorry for any poor grammar as I am not a bright as some. |
Is there anyone else who has been told the dates are now full? I sat stage one on the 5th July. I applied for one of the dates in Aug as soon as I got the email but now I have to wait till the next session. Oh well, it gives me more time to practice raw data ILS's.
|
Three guys I know applied for August 23rd and all had the same message. Full and that they will get back to them.
|
Has any one actually got in recently? It all seems to have gone quiet.
|
My feeling is that their recruitment seems to have stopped for now.
The fact that they can fly some of their captains for a few more years and I would guess that the security issues recently have put the brakes on any immediate requirement. I passed day 2 about a month back now and have heard no more news from them. Oh well  |
Recruitment is still ongoing as I have recently done day 2. However I got the PFO letter saying my sim wasn't up to their standard. For someone with no jet experience whatsoever I thought I made a reasonable attempt at it (obviously not). The flying was far from perfect but wasn't that bad. I am not sure what they expected from someone who has no jet time but I obviously didn't have it. I had studied all the CRM stuff so that I knew it in my sleep so am not sure exactly what went wrong. :{ :ugh:
|
6 guys I know all with varying jet experience some with 737 type ratings and my self with 1700hrs turbo prop all failed on the sim .and I ll go out on a limb here and say I flew the sim sortie well, I left the interview 1600 on a thursday got a "sorry but you failed the sim" letter the next morning at 0900. could be they are super efficient but when guys are waiting weeks and weeks to hear the outcome of their assesments . I cant help thinking my letter was written ready to go before I even left the building. We all could be not good enough for Tfly which is fair enough but I do doubt that. more likley changing crew requirements,
|
Have just heard from a friend who went a few days before me, and with far more experience, that he also failed on the sim. Seems to be a pattern developing here.
Or maybe with so many applicants they can afford to be extremely selective on who they hire. |
I know two pilots who both failed the sim recently. They both had around 200 hours. I did a 2 hour 737 sim with both the day before and they did fine (based on their experience level).
 |
Would they put people through a sim check if they didn't need pilots?
|
and here is the answer we have all been waiting for ! found this in my inbox :
I am writing to update you of our recruitment plans for the coming weeks. As it stands at the current time it looks unlikely that we will have any further simulator and interview days planned for the immediate future. I realise that this will be disappointing news but regrettably it is unavoidable. I hope to be able to update you again by the end of September. Should we have any developments before the end of September we will contact you again by e-mail to advise and where possible offer a selection of sim and interview dates. oh well..... that makes 3 pfo's in two weeks. That's a personal best! |
Any one fail but not on the sim?
I got the standard letter about failing the sim. I am curious - did ANYONE get another type of letter - saying that they failed the interview for example.
From my perspective, my sim was not great but I too had mitigation. I actually felt the interview could have been better. So - is there anyone out there willing to say that slobbering over the psycho was the reason for them not being offered a position? |
Just got this today from Thomson:
"I am e-mailing to advise that there has been a change to the second stage arrangements for next week. I regret to advise that we will now not be interviewing next week. We will still be undertaking the sim assessments as planned so you will still need to report to Alteon LTN for your brief and for confirmation I have confirmed your brief time below. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this may cause. Once you have completed your sim assessment you will be finished for the day and we will confirm the outcome of your sim with you by the end of next week. If you have been successful through the sim then we will advise you and will need to arrange interviews with you at LTN at a later date. If you have been unsuccessful through the sim we will also advise. Once again our apologies for any inconvenience caused." Any body else got the same ? FI |
Hi everybody!
I am sorry to hear that they are failing so many, but I don't believe that they will spend any time or money on sim assessments, if there wasn't a good reason to do so... Anyway, for you guys who have made it through to the second stage, and who is waiting to be invited - Don't worry they will not forget about you, I had a gab of 6 months between the first and the second stage. I am now employed on the 757... The rumours are that they have the required number of pilots for the time being, but at the same time they will most likely start to recriut again during the spring, as they did this year... So cheer up, because it is definitly worth the wait! Take care. /BAP |
Maybe it's a "streamlining" exercise ?
With so many of us apparently making a right  up in the sim, they are wasting time having to get people in to do the interviews. So only those that pass the sim will get to the interview stage (about 1 in every 100 from what I see on here) and the chance of a job. Must dash - got a pile of dusty CV's to send out. :{ |
Just to let you know that our newsletter on the 18th stated that there is a total recruitment freeze at the moment. Do not know how long it will last for? will keep you posted.:ugh:

TFLY Day 3
Just got the good news that I have passed stage 2, sim assessment. Now, new process obviously for the remaining candidates:
after stage 2 to attend final interviews at Luton (stage 3). TFLY will advise at the end of september about the interview dates. Fingers crossed. Cheers FI |
