Fernando Pinto said that the launch of new routes, which should take place "in principle in the summer", is part of the growth strategy of the privatized carrier.

Next year, TAP aims to strengthen the operation in the autonomous regions, in Porto, Lisbon and Faro, "due to the growth of tourism in Portugal."

In the presentation to employees, the manager also mentioned the intention to relaunch routes in Brazil, which had a reduction in frequency motivated by political and economic instability that is the main market of TAP, which was also very impacted by the devaluation of the real.
According to Fernando Pinto, this enhanced TAP is only possible thanks to investment in fleet renewal through the interior of 48 aircraft, budgeted at 70 million euros, and the acquisition of aircraft.

The times for new joiners in Europe seem really good.
Many majors and good airlines looking for FO's with decent contracts.
AF,BA,Tap, Brussels, Austrian, Air Berlin, Finnair and others.
Who would still waste time with dodgy contracts from Ireland?

trancada 27th Oct 2016 20:43

Some contrevercy in the portuguese goverment.

The parliamentary group of the Socialist Party questioned the government over what it says is "discrimination on the grounds of age" by TAP, since "most of the recruitment competitions" of the air carrier determine a maximum candidate's age.
In a written question to the Minister of Planning and Infrastructure, Members of the Socialist Party, asked the Government to "consider it acceptable that a Portuguese flag carrier, mostly controlled by public capital, promote discrimination in access to employment on the basis of age."
The Socialists also interrogate the executive, led by the Socialist, the actual prime minister, Antonio Costa if "given or will give directions to the administration of TAP for the opening of the next recruitment process this situation is corrected and that the conditions of access to be reviewed."
It is that stress, "in addition to their obligation to serve the entire national territory in a balanced way, TAP Portugal has a special obligation to be a model in its performance, a regulator of good practice". The origin of the PS parliamentary group initiative is the fact that "most of TAP recruitment competitions" discriminate "access to jobs on the basis of age, putting as a condition a top candidate's age at job ". "The last tenders opened by TAP for Engineering Specialist Recruitment, to the area of Maintenance and Engineering, stipulated as the maximum age for admission 30 years or 35 years in case of relevant professional experience," advances, still pointing another case in recruiting Cabin Cockpit (commissioners or flight attendants), where "TAP required that applicants for these jobs had between 21 and 26 years." "Examples follow one another and the Parliamentary Group of the Socialist Party received a number of complaints with their ads to different functions, not considering acceptable to exclude a wide range of the population," support the Members of the Socialist Party.

After this intervention, TAP was obligated to remove maximum age, as it used to have.

maxed-out 5th Nov 2016 09:17

It won't stop them simply failing to invite older candidates though.

captplaystation 5th Nov 2016 17:39

Very short time scale for interested candidates to present their resumes in Lisboa"personally" has been given. For anyone holding down a job in another country it is next to impossible to schedule a trip to Lisboa at the notice/in the time frame given . . . thereby favouring those they wish to select anyhow. . . . .:hmm:

trancada 11th Nov 2016 17:09

Date limit to apply , was delayed until 15th November.

zerograv 12th Nov 2016 00:49

Não existem concursos...
That is to say: No ongoing recruitment...

TAP might have removed the maximum age. It might even be that they might recruit someone over the previous age limit, just to pretend compliance with the new governmental wishes ... but strongly doubt it will happen :suspect:

trancada 14th Nov 2016 20:53

Around 400 candidates for 36 vacancies.

trancada 14th Jan 2017 07:46

The actual administration decided, to remove all ages limitations, for all vacancies.

TugaFly 14th Jan 2017 13:34

Am I right to think that the recruitment is finished, and the guys who been picked are already on they're TR course?

The A340 will phase-out next year.

trancada 10th Dec 2017 10:31

Admissions will continue.
In a year 170 new first officers.
The introduction of the A330NEO in September, and 3 A321 NEO.

trancada 13th Dec 2017 20:37

For the first time in TAP PORTUGAL history, a pilot with 52 years old was admitted . As the actual government banned the age limitation that was normal to have , as maximum 35 years sometimes 49 years old., this man was lucky.

This is an example for the industry !

Fadecwithnos 17th Feb 2018 23:11

any information regarding the assessment?

trancada 18th Feb 2018 20:44

TAP announced this year will hire 170 F/O's

trancada 1st Oct 2018 07:47

The requirements are changing.
People working there, have never seen so many advertisements, during the year to hire NTR F/O.
In an average of 2 month, requirements change.
The last one, English mandatory, Portuguese preferential.
Pilots are learning much more.
One of the good things that happened this year, with pilot union, is the compensation that, the company has to pay if you work in off-days or in leave-days.
Other is the company must compensate pilots, while they wet lease aircraft from other companies, to make TAP flights, like HIFLY is doing MPM,NAT,NAT and REC, EUROATLANTIC is doing CCS.

You forgot to mention that you have to pay 30.000€ for the a320 rating.

It is deducted from the salary.
New pilots don't pay it directly.
They will have a lower BASIC Salary. But in actual operational panorama, pilots are getting good cash at the end of the month.
Don't Forget that in Portugal, workers receive 14 salaries per year. 12 month*holliday Salary+Christmas Salary

TugaFly 1st Oct 2018 20:53

How much does a TAP FO make monthly after tax?
Don’t forget that in Portugal you’ll pay over 40% tax...

trancada 2nd Oct 2018 06:02

Even with those taxes the cash is good.
They pay very good per-diems, you can save money during your staying.

Taxes are high. In Portugal half of
the salary is to pay the “ chulos” of the government.

But ok staring with 3500€ net in Portugal you live well. Don’t need to rent a house in Cascais or Sintra. There other neighborhoods places to live and nice ones.

If you need a credit it is easy, because pilots start their contract permanent, but the first 6 month are experimental.

TugaFly 2nd Oct 2018 08:11

€30.000 divided by 36 months is €833 a month.

Monthly salary €3500 minus €833 is €2667 for 3 years and you call that “good cash”?

Am I missing something here??? I know flight attendants who get paid more than that.

I just don’t understand why TAP as decided to charge for the TR, cause they’ve never done it before. People complain about Ryanair but then think it’s ok for a flag carrier to charge €30.000 for a TR.

a350pilots 2nd Oct 2018 12:39

This is a seniority based airline, and the first years a an junior FO.

Whilst I do not agree with seniority in the airline industry (I think it is outdated
and a legacy of the past) it does protect the current workforce employing DEC.

If this is net pay (after tax), it means a gross salary >5000EUR.
I doubt that cadets in most airline earn much more.

And you are not charged for the TR, but bonded - fair enough.

TugaFly 2nd Oct 2018 13:18

I agree with you with the outdated seniority.

In regards to the Type-Rating TAP charges €30.000 for it, deducted from you monthly salary.

sorry it never happened.
nobody hasn’t deducted directly from their salaries has you mentioned .

the basic salary initially is lower, but believe if you work on off days , extra duty you get good cash . 3500€ as I told you is a reference. Sometimes can be more.

TugaFly 2nd Oct 2018 21:29

Exactly, it never happened, but it’s happening now...

aviationfanatic 5th Oct 2018 14:24

Disappointing news, a legacy carrier should not be charging €30,000 for an A320 Type Rating when LCC are actually charging way less than that.
