BA Cityflyer career progression
Hi guys!
I have been doing research about BA Cityflyer, I have managed to find some valuable info on this forum but I still have some unanswered questions and I would really appreciate if someone knowledgeable could share some information. 1. What interests me the most is the career progression opportunities, especially how long on average it normally takes to upgrade from FO to Captain position. Any real opportunities to become a TR instructor and a line training Captain? 2. I am also wondering if the airline offers type rating in exchange for a bond or is it a self-funded TR? 3. I found some information regarding salary on pilotjobsnetwork and some on this forum but I am still not sure how much a bonded F/O can expect for a starting salary. As I said, I will appreciate any information! Thanks! |
1. Depends on your experience but at the present rate upgrade could be quite quick. And yes again depending on experience training positions are possible.
2. Type rating is bonded NOT self funded. 3. I don't have the FO scales to hand so someone else will need to assist. |
Day 1 BA FO's earn 75-80,000?
|
If you tot everything up including flight/duty pay at mainline you're just about breaking £70k in year 1. Maybe a bit more with some overtime. Maybe a (very slight) exaggeration by the OP but he's not far off.

Ah, ok. Thanks.

Sounds interesting!
Do they have night stops, in their destinations? |
Thanks for the information! Is there any specific number of hours you need to have logged before you can start the command training or does it depend purely on seniority?
Regarding the pay, I don't know the tax thresholds in England, how much tax would I be paying earning approx 75k GBP per year? I also need to consider the fact that living in/near London would consume a significant part of the salary, wouln't it? |

The amount mentioned (£4,300) is about average take home for an FO on year one of the DEP pay scale at BA mainline. My take home has varied from £4,100 to £4,900 per month since I joined.
If I remember correctly from my interview(s) with CityFlyer, the take home there is nearer £2,400ish for an FO. |

https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....0f9d9f1bc.jpeg BACF FO pay scales Let’s not get carried away with BACF pay scales. See the actual ones below. Plus about £1900pa London weighting. |
Are these basic salary figures? What would a year one FO expect to take net after additional pay? Cheers |

Geardown1, Yes these are basic figures. Expect about another 5-6,000 on top for duty pay including London Weighting for a City base. Recruitment selection is as per mainline with a slight difference. Day 1+2 is the same as mainline, but done on the same day. If successful on that day the Capt have a sim check, not sure about FO apllicants. |
Is there a more prescribed process to get from Cityflyer into Mainline for those who fancy to work a bit harder but get the benefits of the mainline career progression, or is it still a work in progress to improve and streamline that process?
