Zenon have a listing dated 20th of Dec for direct entry 737 Contract Captains for a UK airline to run from March to end of summer 2014. Who else could that be for?

A and C 26th Dec 2013 10:56

Turboprop time

Perhaps some in Jet2 remember that when they first got jets Very few of their pilots had any jet time and most of the guys had no trouble flying the jets, I expect the memory of the Electra, F27 & HP herald is fresh with some of the pilots.

Unfortunately is seems all the recruiting power is with the HR department who know three tents of sweet FA about flying or recruiting pilots.

Mr Angry from Purley 26th Dec 2013 11:14

A and C - Cant speak of Jet 2 but in my gaf HR do all the paperwork and the Pilot Managers select the Pilot. HR are present only to ensure the correct questions are asked eg. you'e based at XXX you live at XXX 300 miles away and you will make it work - as from experience it doesnt take long for the shine to wear off and Pilots to forget....:\

Mr angry

I have no particular issues with jet2 apart from seeing some very good pilots not get a job because of the Hoops that HR put in the way by testing for things that most of the guys last did thirty years ago in school. Basically they have shot the selfs in the foot by letting the HR people have primacy in the recruitment system, the result being that common sense has gone out of the window.

I don't like to see good professionals inconvenienced by HR people who are playing with the latest politically correct recruiting fad.

As I have said on another thread for me the Jet2 recruitment system was a resounding sucsess, failing to pass their compass test resulted in a left seat job with another operator on better equipment, based much nearer home, on 25% more pay! a job that most of the guys at jet2 who live south of Birmingham would go to in an instant.

LNIDA 29th Dec 2013 19:24

A&C

Its up to Jet2 how they select their pilots and yes I agree with much of what you say, but its true of many airlines, there are people in BA by the back door of bmi who i wouldn't let fly a kite, let alone an Airbus, ditto Jet2 and some of their cast off's have ended up else where, its just how it falls on the day, the good thing is with Jet2, Monarch, Norwegian all recruiting its an improving situation for everyone, Norwegian are hiring 200 pilots in the 1st quarter of 2014 alone, so to all who have yet to find a job, good luck in 2014.

Totaly correct but just think of the frustration of the pilot management ! They interview a lot of good people to have them rejected on the grounds of some HR bull........... And then HR wonder why they have a pilot shortage !

Own goal I think !

Edit !

Your speculation on another thread that Norwegian are moving north will have the Jet2 management more than a little apprehensive, after all, better pay, newer equipment and a modern forward looking management and all this happening in Jet2's back yard are all things that will get the northerners jumping ship......... Going to have to get the cheque book out Philip !

Has the recruitment come to an end for Direct Entry FOs for the 737? Did any Non TR experienced FOs get in or did the Ryanair guys snap all of those slots up? I've heard nothing since applying in July and application still sat at application received!

Wodka 31st Dec 2013 08:50

Who knows. I've emailed the guy a couple of times asking for an update but never got any response. It seems common courtesy does not exist anymore.

My guess is that they have what they need.

A and C 31st Dec 2013 09:18

Guys

Rudeness and lack of couresty is not the NAS way if you are not getting replys it is most likely that the guy who deals with pilot recruitment is snowed under with applications and the training department is working flat out. ( IRO 300 applications from RYR !)

The rapid explanation that has happened at NAS over the past few years has stretched some of the support services to the limit resulting in a few growing pains but I have no doubt that the system will catch up soon.

I think he's talking about Jet2, this is after all a Jet2 thread......

Happy Hogmanay to all my fellow JetPooers.

Yeadon Aerodrome fog !

Aviatrix73.

I can only think that the famous Fog at the Yeadon hilltop aerodrome is obscuring your view...... That or a bit too much of that fizzy John Smiths beer that you had at the Boxing Day whippet races had given you a headache.

Apart from a few 737-400's the NAS fleet is fresh out of the Boeing factory and following the biggest NEW aircraft order in European airline history the NEW aircraft are going to keep arriving for the foreseeable future, unlike Channel Express air services who are retreading their already old fleet, as for the New B738 aircraft, are they really new or just new to EXS ?

To just look at the NAS LGW operation you can expect to see ten 738 aircraft based at LGW by the end of 2014 as well as at least one B787, they are doing third party work for other operators out of LGW this summer so you can expect to see the Red nose aircraft in the usual holiday destinations this year.

Europe wide NAS have a wide network that is expanding with new bases opening at BCN, FCO & MAD in the coming year with more planned, it is logical to think that it won't be long before NAS start looking at the UK market outside London in the near future.

You seem to think the EXS post work is a money spinner, it may be by EXS standards. My guess is the NAS freight company is moving more than twice the amount of mail and freight each day on the NAS passenger network using the spare underfloor capacity than EXS do on their much talked about mail flights.

The Channel Express policy of buying old airframes and upgrading them has served then well over the years but it is one that is better suited to the low hours high yeald night freight market rather than the high hours low yeald low cost passenger market.

To return to the thread the effect of competition from NAS on the pilot market in the north if they set up a base north of Watford will be to drain the experienced pilots out of EXS. This is good news for the low timers on this forum as EXS will be forced to fill the empty seats with new comers, being that EXS keeps high standards in the Fligh Opps department this is would be very good news for the careers of newcomers to the industry.

It just remains to see if EXS will be sharp enough to quickly improve the remuneration package to retain their experienced staff...........my guess that with the track record of the EXS HR department they won't see the problem untill aircraft start getting grounded due to lack of pilots.

Artie Fufkin 31st Dec 2013 16:20

A&C, at some point, you're really going to have to get over your rejection by Jet2's HR department and move on.

I refer you to post #326.

A and C has flown here in the past, and I think he has summed things up with great precision.

Jet2 experience.

With the relentless cutting of costs however, jet2 have over the last year or so seen removal of several, 10 or thereabouts, very long term pilots. Being long term they were on the "old" very expensive contracts.

G-IZMO 31st Dec 2013 20:11

Blue pilot

As someone inside the company, can you offer any reasoning about why those of us who have tried to get in (again) this year have heard nothing for around 6 months? If RYR guys filled the slots, then fair enough, but why have they not told everyone? There doesn't seem to be a concrete answer on whether the recruitment drive is finished. Are they already advertising for contractors for summer? Can't quite believe this is how things are run as there do seem to be a few folks in here who say it's a descent place to work. So how come the recruitment process appears, from the outside, to run for half a year, not provide a final decision and still doesn't supply the crews required? It's difficult for those applying to understand. Or at least me.

Tiempoby 31st Dec 2013 20:41

I too am curious about this. I can't be the only Ryanair/TRed guy left with no love and no response after applying for X years? I'd have got more feedback applying to NASA with a CV written in blood. Strange game this.

LNIDA 31st Dec 2013 21:21

aiatrax73 WOW !!!!!!!!

There is nothing wrong with the Jet2 product, but get real it isn't in the same ball park as Norwegian.

Website transparency (note no booking fee added to the fair you first see)
Free Wifi
Brand new (from Seattle) aircraft
Sky interior
Connecting flights
Skytrax best Low cost airline in Europe 2013

But moving on, they don't need a Northern base, it more likely they will use their Spanish bases (ALC AGP BCN TFS LPA) based aircraft to fly to the UK outside of LGW, just a year ago a few on here thought NAS would be a flash in the pan at LGW another Are Lingus....yer right!! around 320 flights a week now from LGW

3rd biggest Loco in Europe over 20 million passengers, if you want to bet against them your call.
