No its not 90K basic for captain in LIS.

For internal transfers/upgrades a captains minimum of 90K a year is guarenteed, that is basic + flight pay + performance bonus.

However Easyjet expects combined salary will be around 110K for a captain. So that means variable pay is around 33K a year, that's 42% of basic pay.

Basics are:
captain 77K
SFO 50K
FO 42K
SO 35K

All values euro's

The 90K value only applies in the case of making less than 13K in variable pay and possibly only for internal transfers/upgrades. Although that could be grounds for discrimination.

Alexander de Meerkat 14th Jan 2012 22:47

737Jock - I have not looked at the details recently, but I believe the €90K is correct. If you have a guaranteed minimum of €90k, then that would appear to be your basic. You may have looked more into the fine print than I have, and I do not want to misrepresent the situation, which I hope I have not. I do accept, however, that it is still a very poor deal, albeit not as poor as the original one. You would have to be desperate to take it, although sadly many people who are desperate to get into easyJet will take it just to get a foot in the door. The sad truth is that they will do their 2 years, and then move to where the money is - not Portugal!

737Jock 15th Jan 2012 09:33

I see where you are coming from. But I wouldn't call it 90k basic.

Maybe 77k basic + guarenteed 13k variable pay would be more accurate.

Flyingstig 15th Jan 2012 09:37

I appreciate that this thread concerns the internal aspects of the Lisbon contract, but it would be interesting to see if the package has changed for the DECs recruited by Parc.
Perhaps there is someone who is going for selection who can enlighten us?

737Jock 15th Jan 2012 10:26

I strongly doubt it has changed. And anyway PARC/any contractors are not considered welcome by the majority of crews.

In my view the worse the offer to PARC the better.

The torygraph think that the weaker nations inside the Euro would rapidly devalue against sterling by 2016 in the event of a Euro breakup.

Greek Drachma worth 44% less.

The Portuguese Escudo 28% less.

The Spanish Peseta 24% or so less.

The Italian Lira 12% less.

The French Franc 4% less.

Given that the Portugal Contract is for 2 years do you really want to be stuck on an inferior contract being paid in Escudo with very little chance of a return to UK?

But then not so rosy for the UK either but cheap european holidays maybe.

LocBlew 16th Jan 2012 09:03

Euro will be around for a long time. I think the Euro is hardly the problem.

Portuguese extremely high taxes, THAT is the big issue hidden in this contract. Even if gross numbers look decent, the net values will be extremely disappointing.

Flyingstig 16th Jan 2012 09:45

Hmmmm. Parc Capt and Ezy SF/O, who resents his presence.
....Should make for some interesting CRM.

Unless you take up residence in Portugal you are only allowed 90 days in UK before you become liable to UK tax. They will give you an allowance for any tax you pay in Portugal.

My guess is this would best suit some Portuguese guy who is currently in Turkey or Morocco?

sylversurfer 16th Jan 2012 17:50

Portuguese expat pilots will not leave their jobs in the middle east and asia to work for peanuts. The reasons are obvious, a small minority would be willing to accept a downgrade on their current T&C's to live and work in their country ,but not this joke of a contract. Who would accept earning a third of his current salary to move back to a country that is going through what Portugal is going through . I'm sure that this contract does not target these pilots , if it does then we are in the presence of the mother of all screw-ups , who ever came up with it might as well pull a chair while he's waiting .:ugh:

Flyingstig 16th Jan 2012 19:49

I'm not entirely sure that Morocco and Turkey qualify for the high paying Middle East and Asia?
A third of their salary?..... €270k a year? I can see why you wouldn't be interested!
Having spoken to a number of expat pilots employed in both those regions, it seems money is secondary to getting out!

Distribution of EasyJet Fleet in the UK

Hi,

Does anyone know where EasyJet's fleet is based (how many a/c at each base) in the UK or where I could find these details?

sylversurfer 17th Jan 2012 20:14

Fstig, remember that in several countries tax is not an issue , so a 10 to 15K monthly income turns out fine. Also you have to factor in a bonus culture in Asia, provident funds and 6 weeks on \ 2 off type rosters. With the impending demise of a significant part of the Euro zone and it's social security\pension networks , do you honestly think that an intelligent person will leave a job where he is able to actually save something for rainy days ahead and move to a bankrupt country working for a company that clearly discriminates pilots that accept to work there? Every cent you pay in taxes nowadays in these southern european countries is the equivalent of torching your own hard earned money, you will not be getting anything in return , no benefits , no pension , nothing. All of it is used to pay the enormous debts that were created god knows how.
Whoever accepts this job should undergo a serious Psych evaluation, I mean it. :ugh:

What do you all think the prospects would be for a Yank (is that the term used for us Americans?) flying for EasyJet (or any EU LCC) should one have a JAA license with an A320 type rating and a right to live and work in the EU? Also have extensive A320 experience and am currently and A320 SFI/TRI/CKA.

Alexander de Meerkat 17th Jan 2012 22:09

We have a number of yanks working for easyJet, but you must have a JAA or European licence. in addition you need an unrestricted right to work in the EU. Without those you are going nowhere anywhere in Europe.

vincent830 23rd Jan 2012 13:17

Hi guy's

Can somebody tell me if easyjet switzerland is looking for F/O?

Full Left Rudder 23rd Jan 2012 14:50

Am not sure if EZS are still recruiting but I believe 10 or so new guys and girls are starting next month, so you never know.

Also there are a few guys leaving over the coming months too. Might be worth applying, even speculatively.

gilbertmchris 28th Feb 2012 08:56

Anyone within EZY know if this rumour of recruiting direct entry pilots this year is likely to happen?
If so do you think it will be permanent contracts etc?
Last time it happened were bases offered with contracts or did you just accept what you got and applied for your base of choice once online?
Cheers

ADM:confused:

The prospects are not good unless you want to work for a contractor agency like PARC. The only direct entry 2 year fixed term into easyJet is Lisbon at the moment.
Does 77k euro basic for a DEC sound attractive to you? Variable pay and fuel bonusses included they expect captains to make 110K gross a year.

To be honest I don't think any LCC in Europe cares about nationality. You would stand a bigger chance joining an EU LCC if you had 200hrs fresh out of flightschool.

DE is not likely to happen anytime soon at Easyjet. If sudden shortages should arrive Easyjet will propose to plug these gaps by "temporary" contractors. Who offcourse will never leave but won't become easyJet employed pilots either.

gilbertmchris 28th Feb 2012 09:45

110k stirling is not so bad, I expect it's Euros though?
Permanent London based position is all I would leave my permanent London based job for though.
Out of interest though, where is the Lisbon contract advertised?
I thought EZY are desperate for experienced captains to keep the hours up at LGW ? Or is that just another rumour?
