Tut tut silly old Wizz - recruiting guys with experience rather than locals - what ARE they thinking of?! How short sighted of them to want people who know what they are doing flying their aircraft rather than someone who lives down the road and has just finished their type rating!

With that sort of attitude, I'm relieved it's a foreigner (read "experienced") involved in the recruiting and not you my friend.

With time, things will equal out. The experience level will become such that they will be able to recruit local guys. That is the lot of the expat contract pilot and is something most of them accept as a reality of their working lives.

I am employed by a major UK airline that counts pilots from around the world in it's ranks - they were recruited for their experience and ability, not their nationality.

This is about safety, not providing jobs for locals.

He still thinks a Hungarian airline operating multiple bases OUTSIDE Hungary must employ, or has the obligation to employ, a certain amount of Hungarians. "In my opinion an airline should take responsibility for giving work to the pilots of its country in the first step."

Rubbish and nonsense! How many times have I heard "look at the flag on the tail" from Hungarian pilots who seem to forget that they are not in Hungary and Wizz is not Malev. Easyjet and Ryanair hire different nationalities but only in Wizz Air do Eastern Europeans still believe that they should have a priority over Western Europeans. Again nonsense. If BA doesn't hire Eastern Europeans is maybe because the majority (not all of them) have no idea how to speak/write in English.

Even if I don't enjoy it, I understand why Wizz wishes to have local pilots and not commuters. It just makes sense. Most Eastern Europeans are glad to accept 4000 euros as a captain based at home. In the end, if you are from Bucharest based in BBU and speak the language, I believe that Wizz Air is not a bad airline and hopefully they do not reduce the standards any lower then they already did for safety reasons but the day will come when Wizz management will also realize that they can also take advantage of local pilots.

As was said before come to Wizz Air get your hours as F/O or even better get your upgrade, do 1,000 hours and leave. That is what Wizz is for.

No problem, you are free to write down your point of view.
I was mainly aiming at foreing pilots flying from the Budapest base.

I don't think it is about the language. An exeptional high standard of English is not needed to fly an Airbus from A to B, I think.

Obviously you are working for Wizzair because in the current climate you didn't find a better job offer to fly for your national carrier or some other major airline. I'm sure as the economy picks up, many of the experienced flight deck crew will leave...at least that's what the situation looks like at the moment. Already many are trying to step out.

Dear all,

I am thinking about applying for a DEC (non-rated) position. On the Wizz Air page I found links that led directly to TRTOs and did not contain as much information as the link provided DownThreeGreens. Is there any difference? Also, what are the chances of being based in Budapest? Latest I heard was that all new hires went to places far more to the east? Has anyone applied via CAVOK recently and received a response yet?

No chances for Budapest base, period. I would go for CAVOK as it is the only TRTO that is run by Wizz Air pilots with Wizz Air SOPs.

I would not say that you will NEVER get a base in BUD. There is a waiting list, which is strictly adhered to.

No matter how much a few vocal locals will piss and moan, when your name gets to the top of the list, you will be offered BUD.

However, there is a loooooooooooooooooooooooooong waiting list. I wouldn't bet on being based there inside the next 5 years, unless the base doubles from it's current size.

Most likely bases to be offered to new hires: KTW, CLJ, BBU, TGM or at least historically this was the case.

We would like to ask you to complete our online quiz. The multiple-choice quiz is designed to assess your aviation general knowledge, ability to reason, and a few Wizz Air specific facts.

* The quiz contains 40 multiple-choice questions and shall be completed within 40 minutes.
* The quiz shall be finished in one session; it is not possible to save and finish later.

or give these questions to a specialist against $.I think 100-200$ would be perfect to answer 45 questions only.

and dig around for info about wizzair.

I took wizz air online test a couple of days ago, but once you're done you don't get any feedback. I haven't received any news about them since then. Does anybody know how long it takes?, I mean since you finish your test until you get any feedback, positive or negative.

Hi All

In order to pass the online test, you only need a couple of colleagues beside you and your computer to answer the quiz. Or much better, gather several TRI & TRE .
It seems to me that the stage about the online test it is ridiculous.

But, you have to make it :sad:

What I said is the fact to take a stage at home with some colleagues. You are not going to be honest during your online test. :=

The quiz must be done over there at wizz air, not at home.

Well Wizz can do whatever the hell they want when they have more then a surplus of qualified candidates all fighting for the positions. Doesn't hurt them at all, and helps them with the selection process by weeding the rest out.

That is the shape of this industry, and has been for the last few years.

Specific bases only.

On the other hand is the following example:
BUD - waiting list for Captains' transfer,
SOF - 1 Captain lost in 4 years.

But the likes of BBU and KTW - no need to blame Wizz - bad places and the salary does not justify the drop in lifestyle quality, that the average EU pilot is used to. Even though Wizz pays "fair salaries, not equal ones".

Swish, I'm not sure you're entirely correct.

It's true that there is a long waiting list for BUD. Ask why? Probably because Wizz is headquartered in BUD. Oops, no it's not. It's Geneva, for "tax" reasons.

In reality, the wait list is because there are virtually no flying options in Hungary, so any Hungarian would likely prefer BUD to elsewhere.

SOF: Well, you'd know. You're waiting to go there I believe, and the reasons are similar to above. i.e. not too many jobs in Bulgaria.

Take a look around other bases and there's plenty of movement, with perhaps the exception of WAW with again similar reasons to the above.

BBU: plenty of people have left in the last few months;
CLJ: In my time there, 4 Captains left for Vietnam and 1 elsewhere;
KTW: People come and go regularly as you note, to QR, KA, EZ.....;
PRG: Resignations have occurred here too;
GDN: Same again, Captains have left;
KBP (or whatever Zhuliani code is): Yes, you guessed it. Captains leave. At least 20% in the last year.......

The fact is, Wizz doesn't care if people come or go. It's not a career airline.

Luckily Flt Ops now has a professional in charge. I wish I'd reported to him for longer and not the previous HFO.

For those in Wizz, you've got a great leader now and I think he'll put good people to work with him - the best available - and not just yes men.

If that happens, improvements will occur and it will stabilise. Good luck to all.

What I found chatting with a colleague that also took the test is that every test is different, ramdom questions. So, maybe is not very useful to share questions.

I got the email right now, I succeed in my online test. Now I have to fill a data form, forward it to them and wait for a telephone interview, within 4-6 weeks :suspect:, long wait I believe.

1) the HR interview
2) the technical interview.

What typical questions can be expected ?
What is the dressing code for Wizzair selection?

Hi Lowflare. I was not too many months ago. If invited to BUD, means you already did the phone interview I guess. My interview in BUD was a bit special and pretty limited, but expect std questions cc motivation from HR, and also std from a Sr Pilot; can be about gradient requirerement, TO segments, MSA, RVSM etc... I couldn't answer to all Q. Brained ****** up by solar radiations. But made it ... Decision announced after +- 10 days.
Wizz ops are quite ok. Very prof. run
Salary depends a lot of the base: +- 30 sectors pm in Romania. More like 45 in Poland. Wich makes a huge difference at the end of the month!

Commuting not easy for most. first day sign in @ 04:50. Last day sign out at 22:00-23:00. So commuting, most of the times, during your 4 off days. Not much time at home unless easy commuting for you.

If not on a local contract, avoid ETOPS. Prefer the other ones, CAVOK for training (one of the boss is ex Wizz Head of training, now back to TRE, a real gentleman !). Confair, or storm as agency.
We all got lots of BS from Etops. Bunch of liers (not from Etops TRTO, wich had some very nice instructors, but from Etops services, the agency with who you sign the contract. Never again...).

As for the guys asking for dress code... don't forget Wizz is the pink airline !
