Yep absolutely agree with both replies.

5150 27th Sep 2016 21:31

Lots of new joiners over the last five years have given up commands to join VS, plus the odd few who claimed to have commands but didn't.

Like what has been said before; leave your ego to one side. Regardless of what you've done before, you'll wear two stripes on your shoulder and be bottom of the seniority list. If you can get over that, then you're probably well-suited to the position. If not, maybe rethink about applying.

Tiger_ Moth 28th Sep 2016 11:22

Does anyone know what the automation policy is at Virgin? At my current airline I like to do lots of manual flying but I know that in airlines such as BA it's discouraged and you can't take the A/THR out on their A320 fleet for example...

AFA 28th Sep 2016 12:38

No problem. Take it all out and fly as much as you like, I personally always take out the A/THR with the A/P and a significant proportion of other guys do as well.

Can't speak for the Boeing fleets but it's certainly not an issue on the bus - as long as you're not over loading the PnF of course.

Bobermo 28th Sep 2016 12:40

The recruitment page states: "You must hold a current UK Class one Medical and a full EASA ATPL licence (UK issue) at date of application".

My licences at the moment are not uk issued, but I could transfer them easily, would this be a problem when sending in my application?

Seems like a great place to work!

Mi EASA Su EASA 30th Sep 2016 19:04

I know it's been asked before but I can't find a good answer, just wondering if anyone has a sample a330 roster you can post or pm to me? Many thanks

wind check 2nd Oct 2016 07:05

Bobermo at the date of application means at the date of application. In other words you are ****** :E

flyboy146 2nd Oct 2016 08:11

To be honest I can't think why it would be a problem if its at the application stage or not. If you are lucky enough to be called for an interview make sure you turn up with what they have asked for.

I should imagine its TRTO approval is CAA only hence why they want you to have a UK license.

F.C.C. 2nd Oct 2016 09:20

Hi,

Does anyone know how many A320 type rated pilots they are looking for?

I submitted my cv but I guess there will be hundreds if not thousands of applications.

Thanks

StopStart 2nd Oct 2016 22:33

Surely it doesn't matter? If you never apply for anything because lots of other people are applying too then you'll never get anywhere. If your CV ticks all the boxes and your cover letter makes you stand out then you're in with a chance of an interview. If they don't then you ain't. Simple.

zerotohero 3rd Oct 2016 19:47

SO!

Anyone heard anything yet? Follow up? Interview? PFO?

ChaseIt 3rd Oct 2016 22:01

Nothing.. Any info on what the aptitude test involves? If there is one...

Speedbrakes Up 4th Oct 2016 08:02

Considering recruitment does not close until this Friday, I think the earliest anyone will hear, will be the beginning of next week....!

Anybody have any advice, who went through the last round of recruitment?

irish777 5th Oct 2016 09:58

I've had a look though the threads and it's mainly about 787 and 330.

I assume 747 is only LHR and LGW? What sort of trips and destinations are on it? Is the fleet planned to reduce and how would this affect promotion, change to another type etc etc?
Thanks in advance

Vokes55 5th Oct 2016 11:19

747 is only at Gatwick (+ flights from MAN/BFS/GLA). Does Orlando, Vegas, Cancun, Montego Bay, Havana, Varadero and the odd Barbados in Winter.

a-ricky-town 11th Oct 2016 10:51

Any news anyone?

RexBanner 11th Oct 2016 14:51

Likelihood of A380's arriving? Hell will have frozen over, thawed and then frozen over again before there is the merest hint of that happening. By which time Airbus will have stopped production and the Earth will have been consumed by the Sun.

PlankBoy 11th Oct 2016 16:26

Fryva most things are based on seniority (S) and some are First to ask (F)

- Fleet change (S) - I would expect to do 3 years on any type I joined on but maybe less.
- Base change (dunno F I think)
- Part Time (F) - bit of a queue at the moment I think and must do 2 years before eligible
- Positioning - not much these days
- Perks - staff travel awesome, loss licence, private med dental, uniforms, pension 15pc
- Days off - Golden Days, region preferences, destination prefs, days off requests and swaps
- Avg days off varies but you get min 2 days off after any trip and 3 days off after any longer trip.
- 380s (we got 350s instead)
- Long term (better placed than ever probably after trimming costs). Remains to be seen how much Norwegian / Wow model threatens our leisure biz but don't see a threat to LHR biz traffic.

The Mixmaster 11th Oct 2016 19:25

Heads up for those with non UK issued EASA licences. My invite to interview turned to a PFO in less than 24 hours when their recruitment team asked me to confirm EASA licence state of issue. I said I was willing to convert to UK if successful with the application but they insist on UK EASA licence at interview stage. Seems a bit extreme but their train set I guess.

4000hrs TT...330 rated.

A320baby 11th Oct 2016 20:04

Good luck to all that applied, it's a great place to work

Lazydogg 11th Oct 2016 20:58

Seems strange that they insist on a UK licence at interview stage. I know loads of folk that joined BA and Thomson lately with non UK licences and just completed the paper work exercise prior to starting with zero issues.
I also know quite a few Norwegian guys joined on the 787 last year on Irish licences and converted prior to starting. I would assume they will be cutting down the pile to just EZY, JET2, Monarch,Titan,DHL,West Atlantic? With all due respect I can't see many applicants high enough up the seniority lists at BA Thomson or TCX applying so the pool of eligible candidates with Boeing or Bus time is relatively small? Thoughts?

Speedbrakes Up 11th Oct 2016 21:29

The trouble with getting your licence converted by the time you start, is will you really have it before you start your training?
Getting your license converted depends on how quick your current CAA is at sending over your medical and license documents, then it depends on how long the wait is to get that paper work processed and a licensed issued by your new CAA.
I had a colleague who was offered a job, started the conversion process the next day, 3 months later no license, issues with his paperwork. Luckily the airline was understanding, and kept him on the ground 5 weeks later the licence came through.
4 months and 1 week it took them to get their new licence issued, they missed their company induction and type rating course, not good for the training department.

Secondly it could be used as a criteria to narrow down the applicants.

Good luck to all involved.

freggle330 12th Oct 2016 07:43

EASA license

If you have an EASA FCL from another European Union country, what is the procedure to convert it to a UK license? I didn't find good information on this. Any advice is appreciated :-). However, I cannot believe that they require a UK license before you did the interview.

xray one 12th Oct 2016 18:43

The Airbus routes have changed significantly over the last 18 months. Occasional high houred trips which require a 3 man crew, otherwise all short 2 man trips. Normal full time rosters are now 4 to 5 trips per month, very occasionally 6 depending where you are on your hours target (minimum 2 days off between trips). This will reduce when the A350 comes in 2019 with longer houred trips. More hours = less trips in total throughout the year - so with a mixture of long Caribbeans (4 to 6 days away) and Long flights (20 hrs + 4 days trip) the rosters would probably reduce to 3 to 4 trips per month.

Our Pilot Schedule Agreement saves us from unpleasant rostering, however, the Airbus life is harder at the moment but will hopefully improve when the A350 arrives.

zerotohero 14th Oct 2016 08:57

Anyone else been called yet? They have not rung me yet so I assume they are off sick or the phones are not working.

zerotohero 20th Oct 2016 15:05

Anything?

Very quite here to say how popular Virgin is!

JW411 20th Oct 2016 17:13

Do you perhaps mean quiet?

Like a G-LEX 20th Oct 2016 17:37

AFAIK they have been interviewing A330 rated people this week and maybe next week

StopStart 21st Oct 2016 10:39

What s/he said.

ocu 21st Oct 2016 10:52

What about 747 rated?

flyboy146 21st Oct 2016 21:17

All seems very very quiet at the moment.

Captain Spam Can 24th Oct 2016 21:46

PFO...6500hrs + 1500hrs command all A320.
Any A320 rated peeps invited?

A320driver33 24th Oct 2016 22:27

PFO e-mail today too. A320 rated 4000+ hrs and UK ATPL.

rusty_y2k2 25th Oct 2016 07:27

PFO yesterday for me too, 6000+ hrs 320

Disappointed to not even make it to interview but that's life I guess! There's always next time...

GA F15 25th Oct 2016 09:31

Looks like they've targeted A330 guys first, and maybe they have found enough before moving onto A320 people.
I imagine they will do with same with Boeing guys-747 first, then NTR if they can't get enough candidates.

rusty_y2k2 25th Oct 2016 11:24

GA F15 - does certainly look that way, or at least that's what I'm telling myself for the sake of preserving my ego!

Until, of course, someone with only 320 experience rolls up saying they have been invited to interview, thus blowing the aforementioned theory out of the water... then it'll be straight back to crying ;)
