Melik,

It depends if you are Greek or not. They do hire 250hrs but you have to be Greek and speak the language, with that you are bonded for 4 years. Type rating provided in house now, no more Airbus Toulouse. 2100/month non-rated all in, or 2300/month rated all in. 14month wages per year, no increase until year 3, but then you go above a tax bracket and make less than the previous 3 years! :{
Non-Greek, no chance without a type rating and I believe its 500hrs on type, contract is good, but soon as the summer is over its bye bye....from what I know 4500euro+appartment+car+no bonuses for the duration of the contract, tax paid is up to you.
The way Greece is headed, I wouldn't be surprised to return at least 4 of the airbus taken on lease from Olympic, and if that happens they will be over crewed. Many of the PSO routes will be ending and I don't think Aegean are interested in them anymore. Contraction of the economy is guranteed after the summer, I definately believe all airlines in Greece will be affected by this. :ugh:

Good luck to everyone looking to join.

YYZ Instructor, youre a champ, :ok: thans for the info...
I am Hellenic and speak fluently.
I am looking into getting a conversion to JAA (just because I like sitting extra exams, not :ugh:) and wanted more info before i booked myself in.
Now i guess ill have to continuously check out the sites for applications, never ends does it...? :)
Regards

Agree with YYZ except for one thing.. If four a/c leave after the summer (which they wont) the airline will not be overcrewed. Lots and lots of F/O's leaving for the sandpit every single month. Most likely scenario is for the 3 wetleased aircraft from a foreign airline to leave after the summer season, and maybe the additional LHR and CDG flight to be reduced again.

Also the hub in LCA is going very well apparently. The hiring potential of this airline is very high right now.

Also dont forget that Greece is seeing a large spike in tourism right now, and generally this year, both major Greek airlines have seen a rise in load factors without lowering prices. After the summer chances are good that, many of the Greek airports will be privatised and ATH will be sold to a German company well known for lowering prices at the airports they work with. Its not ALL looking so bad.

SVoa, whens the best time t apply do you think?

SVoa 23rd Jun 2011 11:01

Aegean does not accept applications at random. They only accept application when the when they are openly recruiting pilots. This means you have to wait until they announce that they are hiring pilots on their website.

melik 23rd Jun 2011 11:33

:\ lol
sorry, i can see how my post would have looked. i know its not to my disgretion, i more ment whens the best time to look, but i know that is random.
but thanks again SVoa...

I have heard rumours that they are recruiting towards the end of august. In the past type rating was not required but requirements might change with the upcoming recruitment. There is plenty of info posted on these threads which discuss this.

costas1979 6th Jul 2011 09:05

Having read that aegean airways uses the GAPF test for their testing, does anybody know where i can find samples of this test? I am using generic phsycometric books but I think something more specific will be more helpful.

Any help is appreciated,

Regards.

SVoa 6th Jul 2011 10:55

I think GAPF is a paper based examination and not computer based so it difficult to find sample tests im guessing. I've looked but havent found anything.

Hi costas,

Just use the same hard preparation we all did for those w:mad:kers at Cyprus Airways!!

SVoa 10th Jul 2011 08:50

I doubt they will recruit in August. Probably more like September. However i'm pretty sure Aegean will be more interested in type rated pilots this time around. If they cant find enough Greek type rated pilots, they will definately ask for the type rating to be funded by the pilot. My personal opinion.

Hey bud sorry you had to learn the hard way :ugh:

Don't Give up something will turn up :ok:

I believe you type rated guys should be looking further afield than europe at the moment as the economy is very volatile there aviation goes hand in hand with economy..

If you are young and single and possibly type rated which i believe appears to be the case with some of you guys i would seriously consider targeting asian/middle eastern carriers i wouldn't just box myself into europe at the moment the growth is simply not there your best chances lie where there is rapid expansion..

Good Luck:ok:

I also wanted to know what was involved with the GAPF process and if anyone had more of an insight as to what to expect for those tests.

Thank you:ok:

Aegean already have interview some applicants and they are going for A320 type rating with low hours F/O's. There are so many type rated pilots in the Hellenic market that they will for sure find the 30 F/O's they need.

costas1979 13th Jul 2011 12:32

what do you mean they have interviewed? They havn't posted anything on their website

costas1979 13th Jul 2011 12:56

Are you refering to contract pilots?

PGP737 15th Jul 2011 06:27

They already have called many F/O;s for a small chat in the office.
They follow ryanair habits... they prefer Hellenic speaking, type rated with 0 experience, and under 25-30 years old.

costas1979 15th Jul 2011 06:43

Thanks for your reply,

but you havn't answered completely my qu.

How did aegean recruit these people in the first place?

Nothing was posted on their website.

YYZ_Instructor 15th Jul 2011 07:00

Costas,

I am not in a position to know if they have interviewed or not, but I'll tell you a few simple things about Aegean. The aviation market in Greece is small, and most of these "new pilots" are sons of pilots....so they know people and they don't really have to apply to get an interview. Greece is Greece even in a private company! :ugh:
Secondly, recruitment will happen whether Aegean want to or not, the pay is dropping, the hours are near limits and the roster is far from stable! With the way the hiring is going outside of Greece they will lose quite a few pilots even if they don't want to leave Greece, just because it hurts to watch others live a normal life and make double and triple to you.

The only advice I can really give you is send your CV to the HR email address and keep your fingers crossed. There will be hiring....just a matter of time. Any specific questions you can always private message me.
