Hi,

Just wondering...Do SSP's get paid during the type rating and joc??

My financial situation ain't great just now....would be good if they did!

Any help appreciated

FlyUK 29th Apr 2006 09:57

Mooney12, JOC NO, Type Rating YES. But don't expect a quick turn around between interview and type rating dates. 6 months is pretty standard.

Hi, have a look at www.britishpilots.co.uk for latest BA salaries

Year 1 F/O all fleets £44,040 expect between £10-15,000 extra in allowances per year. Take home with no allowances about £2600, with them between £3100 and £3500. More likely about £3300. Hope this helps.............

Regarding the SSP scheme,

I have heard from a number of sources that the gap between the end of joc and the start of type rating can be very long (6 months!).

Im very worried about degradation in my flying skills in a time frame like that. So I was wondering if anyone else has thought about this? Or experienced it and how they found the conversion course after such a long lay-off

Thanks in advance

FlyUK 14th May 2006 12:55

Very unlikely to be 6 months! The longest that I have heard about is 3 and a half months (me, becasue of my age). They like to get you online asap after the joc. The other 5 guys on my joc all started the TR within a month.

Gents -

Would it be possible for me to commute to and from the US if I join BA (on the 777) ?

I'm a European (Dutch) guy, but my chick is American and she wants to stay stateside for now ! (senior in college)

Thanks in advance guys.

For all you BA wannabe's: I'm 22 y/old 2100 TT -- 1200 ME Turb. PIC. I did my JAA ATPL online while flying corporate stateside.

CanAV8R 14th May 2006 19:12

With your time mate it would be the A320 or B737 to start. I think it would be 3-5 years until you could get the 777/747. Commuting from the US as a short haul pilot would be tricky I would think. There are BA pilots who live all over the world so anything is possible. Get the job first (easier said than done) and then worry about the living arrangements.

security interview BA

I recently made it through the first assessment day. Doing the simulator next month.
In addition to the SIM assessment I'll be required to undergo a brief security interview (as required by BAA).

Does anybody know which questions they are going to ask me ?
Is it only about convictions (which I don't have) or also about accusations/ indictments ?

Many thanks in advance for your replies.

FlyUK 20th May 2006 08:44

No, its just a paperwork exercise for the BAA becasue you are using an aircraft simulator without any BA ID basically. It involves writing your name on a piece of paper and ticking a few boxes like 'do you take drugs' or 'do you have any mental illness' type thing. Took about 2 minutes in my case and was done just before I went into the sim. I wouldn't worry about it. (unless you have something to hide.) :E

Best of luck in the sim.

CanAV8R 20th May 2006 08:59

My understanding of that little BAA thing is to let BA get your pass rolling in the event they hire you. I could be wrong but that was my take on it.
Anyone know of BA is opening the recruitment door again? I made it through a while back but curious for mates............
:p

demobcurious 20th May 2006 10:17

Interesting - I didn't get a security questionnaire to complete before going in the sim. One of the HR ladies was supposed meet us in the 'Welcome' bldg but didn't turn up.

Crikey - wasn't I lucky not to get caught by the hyper-efficient BAA security machine. ;)

Getting into BA on your second attempt...

Can anyone tell me if after a year from not making it in; went back a myear later and cracked it?

What do you feel that you did differently?

Had your new gained hours and experience helped, were you better prepared or were you just very unlucky first time round...

Also would like to know if you were invited to apply again or you went ahead and tried again after your year had expired.

Thanx P1.

Just a quick heads up about the BA simulator assessment day. The ancient BAC 1-11 sim that is used at the moment is finally being retired - too expensive to keep servicable and some parts unavailable. Recent trip to a museum for instruments has focussed minds.
From this summer we will be using a B747-400 fixed base sim. This has no motion or visual system and EFIS displays will be switched to NAV so no map display.
Basic flying skills will still be assessed and no previous 744 time will be needed.

BA DEP short haul minimum requirements

Hi,
I saw the minimum requirements stated on BA web site for the last intake of short haul DEP was 100 legs or 400 hours on a company type. Was these (so low) requirements real? Did it ever happen during the last round of recruitment that someone with just 620 hrs total time and 400 on a company type was called for a selection?
Any guess on when they will recruit again for short haul DEP?
thanks

Megaton 25th May 2006 09:43

I slipped through the selection net last year with about 600-700 hrs total time and 100+ sectors on a heavy turboprop so it does happen. Their minimum requirements seem to go up and down quite regularly so it's worth keeping an eye on.

Strepsils 25th May 2006 11:06

cuffio - The most recent recruitment had raised the cut-off to 750 hours on a qualifying aircraft. However, when the limit was 400 hours or 100 sectors there were several people taken on with less than the hours but qualifying on the sectors. All down to the individuals performance at the assessment days:ok:

B747-400 FBS instead of BAC1-11

Hi ETOPS, I have an assessment day at Cranebank in mid-June. If successful and invited for sim check, any idea of the simulator type to be expected ?
Would love my life if the B744 FBS was on line and in service for this.
Any ideas on the chances of this ?

Any feedback wld be hugely appreciated.....

Fox3Maddog 27th May 2006 07:52

Loc - another thanks added to the many for your helpful advice on the DEP selection. I am due at Cranebank in a couple of weeks and have wrapped myself around the axle a few times getting my algebra and geometry up to speed! Any recent attendees got any new top tips - i.e has anything changed significantly since Loc's 1st post? Any guidance on the numerical reasoning in terms of directed learning?
Also, does anyone know what the uptake per selection day is? If every one passes, do they all get in? Or are there only a couple of slots per selection? Is there a weighting applied to any one part of the selection day?

FlyUK 27th May 2006 09:48

I'm sure SSP and DEP selection rates are quite different, but for what its worth of the 16 who were at selection with me, 3 of us were offered places. :oh:
