Anybody knows the BA standards for visual acuity? They say they are harsher than the CAA ones. In particular the CAA accepts -5 dioptries(shortsightedness) if it is corrected. Is BA that clement?

Golden rule on the 1-11, If in doubt set 10,800 HP RPM It will keep you flying without busting anything until you figure out what to do next!
Its an old 200 series if its the one I flew and quite docile.

Dont worry FBOZH - BA the same as the new CAA requirements.

Get a caa class 1 and you should be fine.

does anyone know if BA are still looking for fo's and when exactly can you re-apply if you don't make it??

can i have another go in 2006, is that what they mean when they say one year...;)

Everything is pretty much as has been described. No discernable differences. It has its moments but is quite an arduous experience especially the micropat tests. The one with the lines that drop down at different rates has been dropped (or I did very, very badly on that one!). Either way I would rather have food poisoning. Best of luck.

The DEP selection is exactly as described in the first few posts on this thread, save that, and I have this on reliable information, the group exercise now involves a scenario whereby a ground service Co. has £250 K to spend and each member of the class has to present a business case (contained in an A4 sheet in front of him or her) as to how the money should be spent. There's little point in going into any further detail of each business case since the purpose of the exercise is to assess interaction not 'how to spend £250k.'

No useful tips to dish out, except the obvious: work as a team, don't stick out unnecessarily, justify your arguments, be prepared to change your mind, listen, communicate and dont be heard to be saying what a silly game it all is.

I attended the assessment last week, and unfortunately through no fault of my own(ha ha) did not get through.

The whole process is as described here so far.
The interview was too good to be true. Scenario type questions with specific examples. I walked away with a positive feeling. I was interviewed for an hour and fifteen at least????, some guys were coming out after 20 mins??? On a couple of occasions the interviewers commented on that ‘’I was going to ask this question however, your example and explanation covered the next two questions’’.At no time was I corrected to remain on the subject nor did I not have a answer for any question. I answered all questions in an articulated and structured manner. They were extremely friendly, relaxed and easy going, at times even using humour. I tried not to engage in humour as I feel that humour can be a double edge sword.
With the verbal reasoning, 45 questions 25 mins, read a passage and answer true, false, cannot tell. I answered 40 q’s and did not guess the rest. Same with the numerical reasoning, I answered 16 out of 25 but I answered them correctly but again did not tick the rest of the boxes. Should I have? I was worried about negative marking. As for the micropat I feel I was averaging ok until the last test when all comes out at once, wow.
One question as for verbal reasoning, can anyone suggest any material. I am fully conversant with the language, I practiced numerous examples and was averaging 3 out of 4.My suspicion is the verbal reasoning, but again, it could be anybody’s guess.

Good luck to all that will or intend to attend, it is a long day, however it is very relaxed so try to enjoy it and I suppose try be yourself.

Can anyone tell me if you are allowed to use a scrap piece of paper for the maths test at B.A?

raspberry, yes you can and you will be given some.

bar rattler, you can turn up in shorts and a t-shirt if you want...might give the wrong impression though. :} When I did it everyone was in suits.

I wore suit for the sim simply because it was the day after the interview and just about all I had with me save for a pair of jeans and a t-shirt.

Did you get any numeric sequence maths questions such as completing the pattern of numbers 2..?...6...8.. etc?

No numeric patterns when I did the tests ..... but that was nearly a year ago.

Wear a suit for goodness sake - it requires so little effort yet it may count for much, who knows? Anyway, do it!

I'm sure we were given some paper to do rough calculations on but it had to be handed in with the answers. Thats to stop you copying examples of questions and taking them out with you!

I specifically asked about negative marking from the (non-BA) chap administering the nuemrical tests - he said there was definitely NO negative marking. I didn't attempt to guess any answers as the end time approached, I just worked methodically and tried to get them right.

Something paid off ..... because I am now very lucky to be flying the B777.

...And one last question - Whats the score if you are a couple of hundred hours short of 2000 and 1000 jet when you pass the interview? If they offer you the bus or 75/76 can you ask to hang out poolside until you get the hours? This would be notice period plus a month for me.

How flexible are they?
When are the next 777 courses?
Are they still recruiting for 75/76??
