Next stage

Hi everyone,
Got a call on Monday to say that i had been successful and moved to the Sim stage. Anyone done this on the 744 yet?Is it like the last one?

A to B with a divert to C?

Very excited, a to get my hands on the Jumbo and secondly to get through to the last bit...

FL :ok:

Hi
had the sim check on the 744 about a week ago - are you doing this as a DEP or SSP as your sim profile might be different to that of what i did!
Feels nice to get my hands on a jumbo - don;t think i enjoyed it as much as i wanted to though as was concentrating so much on passing!! haha

Just in reply to another post.....
If commuting is a possiblity then - what would you do in the instance were your on standby?
You need to be able to get to either Heathrow or Gatwick within 2hrs time and its about 3-3 1/2hrs to Heathrow from where i live??

Im kinda caught in two minds at present as what to do - i know i would be able to get myself a nice place back home as its much cheaper than down south which is a big lure!!

any comments appreciated

Ok, you only need to be able to get to LHR within 2 hours whilst on home standby during a reserve month. On SH, typically 1 reserve per year, LH 1 per 18 months. During the reserve month youi'll get lots of trips and not a huge number of standbys...bit of a bone of contention in that you get hardly any standbys at the moment due barely enough pilots to cover the work.

In your case, like hundreds of others just spend the 6 hours in a service station (has been done) or stay at LHR for most of the 21 days you'll be on reserve (you can get home during the long and short breaks you'll get). I'm afraid sitting around Compass can be boring but if Ops know you're in the building they know you can fly at short notice.

To put it in perspective, you'll be affected by the 2 hour rule for approx. 6 days per year (2 standbys per week (just my experience and not fixed) per week of reserve). Everyone puts their life on hold for 18 days on reserve (21 minus min of 3 days off in that time)

If you can handle the commute on normal duty days you can come up with a solution for the few days per year you're on standby.

DEP non-type rated

Has anyone who applied as DEP non A320 rated last month heard anything yet?

Applications closed on 28/2/07, just wondered how long it normally takes BA Recruitment to respond. Will they be focusing on those who applied as A320 rated first?

Thanks.

hi guys i got a BA sim ride coming up very shortly and was wondering is there anyone out there who has also got one coming up or has had one recently who can fill me in with what they got and any other usefull tips.

Jetstar Newbie 27th Mar 2007 12:23

Just been in the UK for a holiday and managed to catch up with a few pilot friends - seems like bouyant times.

One tip though after reading this thread and talking to some friends who have recently been through process - some BA tests are the same as Qantas.

You should think about taking a trip to Melbourne and doing the PATS course - which prepares people for this tests. At J* we sit the same test as Qantas applicants and the majority of FOs I fly with tell me they did this course and that is the only reason they made. Certainly I would have toast without this program.

Has anyone re-applied this year for DEP since last year?

The essay questions on the online application are the same, have people given the same answers and got through that stage OK?

eagerbeaver1 2nd Apr 2007 07:38

I re-applied and got my application in on the 27th for the long/short haul hold pool. I recieved the good news of an interview and selected May 15th.

WRT to my application most details stayed the same except I feel I refined and dramatically improved the application overall especially the essay questions. I change a couple entirely but the other three maintained the same core as I thought they were still relevant. I found for me to get through the hoops for an assesment were;

1)Have the hours and a bit more
2)Be honest with your essay answers- keep them specific and dont write horrible greasy bulls£*t.
3)Make sure there are no spelling/grammer mistakes
4)hope for the best

Hope this helps

demobcurious 2nd Apr 2007 10:08

Amongst others,

Make sure there are no spelling/grammer mistakes
PLEASE tell me this isn't serious....

doh!!!

I assume you meant "grammar"

scopiton 5th Apr 2007 15:40

it seems closed. have they hired all the people they needed ?
thanks

future captain 5th Apr 2007 16:19

The cadet scheme has not been active for last few years, they still hire cadets/SSP pilots from various flight schools. But its up to you to fund the training.

We were both invited for an interview next month.
Thanks a lot for all the info, esp. to Loc for starting this thread. Have 4 or 5 books now to help me prepare. Hope it helps.
Ordered the aptitude test from cockpitweb two weeks ago but no reply. Anybody any info about this company ?
Good luck to all of you who are doing the interview, simulator... as well !!
:ok:

Elixir 17th Apr 2007 13:21

I received an email inviting me to DEP assessment day and asking me to log on and select a suitable interview date.

Only one date is available for 7th June - does that mean people have got there before me and selected all other dates or will they be adding more? I have sent BA an email but as yet no response so if anyone has any idea would be very grateful!

4on4off 17th Apr 2007 19:13

Same thing happened to me about 15 months ago now. Just keep checking back every 24 hours or so and new dates will appear.

Give yourself time to prepare properly

Good Luck
