Loganair Current Outlook
Hi all,
I’m new to pprune, I was just wondering if I could have some facts and opinions on the current outlook at Loganair. Currently in the hold pool with them looking to join as an FO. Heard a few rumours of pilots leaving the company and jumping ship and was wondering how management is at LM and what to expect working for them and a general oversight of hours and QOL.
Thanks!

I’ll bite..
It’s an ideal job for a new FO IMO. Lots of sectors and landings (4 and 6 sector days are common), mix of automation and manual flying, lots of 2D and visual approaches, challenging weather and airports, good development of airmanship, E145 above 20t MTOW (good for next job application), some busy airports experience eg EGLL/EGCC, mostly decent people, mostly good training department, who want you to pass (perhaps too much in some cases, but that’s another story), early career command if you’re competent, relatively soon after your ATPL is unfrozen.
Disadvantages include regional airline T&Cs (i.e. poor pay and benefits), hard working (late finishes before DOs, early starts after, working most days in the month without running out of flight or duty hours, so minimum DOs), limited scheduling agreement, limited roster stability, not really a career airline, living in Scotland (unless you are at another base, which regularly get closed depending on what contract or routes get cancelled, or you want to be there and get taxed more). So for me QOL was poor. Don’t even think about trying to commute to your base, you won’t get any time elsewhere.
Because of the poor pay and conditions, a job with J2/BA/Easy is very attractive. Some FO’s passed their final line check and put their notice in (notice period 4 months) having got a job elsewhere, even paying for the bond it made more financial sense as most FOs in other airlines earn more than LM Captains. Other airlines seem to recognise the quality of the LM pilot product. E145 eases transition to bigger jet aircraft.
I can’t speak for the new(ish) management culture much as I left just after that happened, however there were a lot of ex-Flybe CEOs mates brought in as directors etc. However, it’s just about profitable, and although nobody wanted to buy it when it was for sale, LM still makes money for the Bond family, so it’s still going.
Bottom line is that it’s a great starter job for an FO, but if you’ve got potential offers elsewhere, think carefully about what you want.
