SAS pilots to go on strike.
Yesterday SAS Pilot Group, representing mainline pilots in Denmark, Norway, and Sweden, called a strike from June 29.
Since last September, the unions have negotiated with management wrt a solution to the outsourcing activities in SAIL aka SAS Connect and SAS Link (subsidiaries, who's only purpose is to employ cheaper pilots and split the pilot group).
We have over 400 mainline pilots, who were fired during the pandemic, with a 5-year rehire clause, who are still on the street while SAS is actively hiring whoever has a pulse into its union-busting subsidiaries. Truly shameful, and totally contrary to the Scandinavian way.
In addition, some 200+ Captains were demoted to F/O´s (some with 23 years service) while DEC´s from around the world are getting on with Connect/Link.
Enough is enough, now we cross the Rubicon, and if management does not wake up, we will find new jobs, and at least walk with our backs straight.

Congratulations. Going multi-national is beyond impressive.
A change of legislation is well overdue, no AOC flights with more than 20% pilots on self-employed contracts (equally distributed both seats). No self-employed contracts for anyone under the same AOC beyond 2000 accumulated hours.
Still cannot understand why the German unions did not stop it on their turf.
Level the playing field, otherwise both the proper pilots and their employers/investors will keep losing forever.

I really support your course and I also agree that SAS’s actions towards its pilot and cabin crew is unacceptable.
But…… please remember that most pilots are professional and are not only a person with a pulse. It has been very difficult for many of our colleagues the last few years.
Let us hope the SAS pilot group will be successful with their industrial actions and that the aviation industry as a whole can offer better T and C in the coming years.

The root cause of all these problems is ugly unabated free market capitalism which allows the likes of Ryanair and Wizz to charge customers mere peanuts to fly across the European continent which they get away with due to a combination of economies of scale, smokes and mirrors. These airlines do it in the hope that the completion will crumble. That is there only motive. To watch every one else dissappear so they can monopolise the market. Such a goal is always going to be to the detriment of society in the long run but you'd be branded a communist for even suggesting it. Even the good airlines have to start cutting back on terms and conditions in order to compete. We have to ask ourselves what we really want from society. The Lowcost cancer has gotten out of control.

In normal economic terms, such conduct would be termed predatory behaviour , would have the intention of driving other companies out of the market (as you say ) but would normally entail the predator selling below cost and making losses for a short time until the competitors disappeared/went bankrupt. Here however the problem with your argument is that Ryanair has been in business with this method for 30 (? ) years and is very profitable.
I recall the late 70's when a MAN/CPH full-price return with SAS would be GBP 550 ( may not be exact, but a lot of money ) and all pilots could buy a villa on the Cote d'Azur with their salaries. It's that damn old pendulum.

Id give the airline and group 1 month following a strike if its longer than a few days, they will close and shut the doors. End of your airline and how proud you all were.
Ryanair will step in within a week and open bases. Probably won't look at any Scandi Crew. I guess they could share everything with Norwegian who are just waiting.

However, if management gets their way, us mainline guys will be gone anyway ( I´d give it max one year) and then SAS will be turned into a travel agency, with a bunch of lowest-bidder platforms left. Personally, I'd rather see the company gone in that case and take my chances on the job market. I have always been proud to wear the uniform and represent the pilot group in SAS, a truly professional and great group. But this is our last stand, make no mistake, and we have nothing to lose, as we will be extinct anyway.
